What Do Liposuction Scars Look Like?

Scar following Liposuction should normally be tiny and disappear to insignificant level in one year time in Caucasians and in dark skin may need treatment for first 4 months .

I use compression garments for 10 to 12 weeks if the age of the patient is more than 30 years and the skin quality is not that great and if in addition there is history of recent weight loss.

Skin needs to adopt to the smaller body volume in the treatment area and the empty space created by the liposuction needs to collapse and heal and this is what the garments are meant to do. (Ashok Govila, FRCS, MCh, MS, Dubai Plastic Surgeon)

Every liposuction procedure requires access for the instrumentation using very small incisions.

While most heal very well, it is possible to have a very slight scar at these entrance points. They will be red for a few months before they fade.

All liposuctiion procedures employ compression garments after surgery. The time of wearing them will vary by the body location and by the doctor and his/her personal preference. While garments are helpful after surgery to control swelling and improve comfort, they have no magical properties.

In and of themselves, they do not reshape the treated area. (Barry L. Eppley, MD, DMD, Indianapolis Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction scars are generally very small, and for many patients, hardly noticeable after healing. I try to place the incisions in areas that are normally covered by clothing or “hidden” by natural creases in the body.

Compression is beneficial to liposuction surgery. It is typically worn for 4-6 weeks, though time and type of compression vary patient to patient. (Mennen T. Gallas, MD, Katy Plastic Surgeon)

Your plastic surgeon will make tiny incisions allowing access for the liposuction cannula. These incisions generally heal quite well and are placed in areas such as natural folds and creases to make them less visible and easily hidden with bathing suits and clothing.

Your plastic surgeon will demonstrate location for each incision based on the areas where you will be having liposuction, Compression garments and/or Spanx will be worn after surgery. Most patients need some type of supportive garment for a few weeks following surgery but this will vary from patient to patient. (Richard A. D’Amico, MD, FACS, Englewood Plastic Surgeon)

Although we are specially trained in minimizing scarring techniques-all incisions leave scars.

Genetics, age, incision placement, suturing techniques, and time are only a few factors that influence scar formation. Usually, scars from liposuction surgery heal quite nicely because of their size and placement.

A compression garment will be needed to minimize swelling and skin laxity. Small areas and youth usually equals less time required in a garment! (Gary M. Horndeski, MD, Texas Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction leaves small scars. They are usually hidden in natural creases. They may be unnoticeable as early as 6 weeks. For the inner thigh – If only a little fat is removed from the inner thigh, I will usually tape the area for 5 days.

Then my patients wear snug Spandex pull-on shorts or Spanx, rather than a compression garment for 4-6 weeks. I never use drains for liposuction. a small inner thigh liposuction heals quickly.

I have seen nice final results as early as 3 months, although it can take much longer at times. (Elizabeth Morgan, MD, PhD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)

Does lipo leave scars

The great thing about liposuction is the incisions to perform the liposuction are very small.

The incisions are sutured and are removed in about a week and these incision sites fade and are normally barely visible. (John Hensel, MD, Charleston Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction requires small incisions in areas near the desired treatment area to be used for access.

These are usually 0.5 cms long and usually heal very nicely. I prefer patients to wear a compression garment after the procedure for 3-6 weeks on average. (Steven Wallach, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)

The tiny micro canulas are so small and give the best results that they are now used by us lipo docs who specialize in liposuction and who do lipo under local anesthesia. The entry points are just needle sticks so there are no big ugly scars at all.

Garments are typically worn for 1 week continuously and half time for the next 3 weeks. Walking is encouraged from day one and strenuous exercise is started at 1 week. Patients are back to work in only 2 days.

You can see a big improvement at 1 month and final results at 4-6 months. (David Hansen, MD, Beverly Hills Dermatologic Surgeon)

There are small scars at the access sites. Garments typically need to be worn for 4-6 weeks following surgery. (David A. Lickstein, MD, Palm Beach Gardens Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction leaves minimal scarring

Liposuction is performed via small incisions and the scasrs, especially in the inner thigh area, can be placed in natural folds so as to minimize them. Surgical compression garments should be worn post-operatively; every surgeon has his own regimen.

Initial healing takes about 6-8 weeks but there should be continued improvement over the course of the first six months after surgery. (Robert L. Kraft, MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction leaves only tiny scars

The beauty of liposuction is that it is done through small incisions, usually less than 1/4 inch, maybe slightly larger, and the scars can be well hidden by most clothing. I generally have patients in garments for 6-8 weeks, a little less for small areas.

I tell patients they can be out running again in 2 weeks. (James E. Chappell, MD, Annapolis Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction Incisions and Garments?

Liposuctioning is generally done through a small ( few millimeters) incisions. Generally speaking these incision can be hidden nicely in natural anatomic creases or folds. In regards to the use of compressive garments, you may find that every surgeon has a different routine.

My patients use garments for approximately 1 month after liposuction surgery. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
