What is Smart Lipo Laser?
Smart Lipo is a laser that is made by the company Cynosure. There are different Smart Lipo machines on the market. The most recent version of the laser is the Smart Lipo Triplex which is considered their flagship.
It consists of three different wavelength lasers all focusing on different elements. The 1064 wavelength focuses on red blood cells and helps with post operative bruising. The 1320 focuses mainly on water content and heats the tissue to assist in tightening the skin.
The 1440 wavelength focuses on fat and helps to melt the fat. All three are used to create an end result of tighter skin and less fat in the regions the surgeon focuses on. It stimulates the collagen and cells in the skin to shrink and improve contour. (Joel B. Beck, MD, FACS, Bay Area Plastic Surgeon)
SmartLipo TriPlex: The next generation of SmartLipo
SmartLipo was FDA approved in November of 2006 and has gone through 7 generations of advances ending with the SmartLipo TriPlex with Cellulaze.
This version uses a unique combination of 3 lasers, which can be used either separately or blended, to enhance patient outcome.
The addition of the Cellulaze fiber now adds the ability to treat and improve cellulite permanently in a single treatment. My general approach to the use of the lasers takes place in 4 steps:
- Injection of tumescent fluid for infusion of local anesthetic (I do my procedures under local with oral sedation)
- Introduction of the 1440 nm laser for “melting” of the deeper fatty tissue
- Small cannula liposuction for removal of the fatty debris
- Introduction of a blended 1064/1320 nm laser combination to refine the superficial fatty layer, coagulate small blood vessels and tighten the skin
The patient is then placed in a supportive garment for 2 weeks.
Other important components to this system are related to enhanced safety and outcome. The ThermaGuide is a real-time temperature sensor at the tip of the laser cannula which gives direct feedback to the system allowing control of temperature thereby allowing ideal tissue temperatures for tissue tightening to be achieved with little to no risk of burn.
As with any cosmetic surgery, choosing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with experience in the procedure you are considering is important in achieving your results. (Peter Klainer, MD, FACS, Morehead City Plastic Surgeon)
