I would recommend a breast lift to get results you’ll be happy with long-term. You’ll be able to correct the asymmetry, get an ideal end result, and not risk needing a second surgery to correct what you’re unhappy with. Patients are happier when they reach their position and volume goals even with visible incisions as opposed to not pursuing the recommended surgery in order to avoid more incisions.

Assuming you will only have a breast augmentation without a lift, you may be able to return to the gym at 3-4 weeks for stationary exercises like the bike, but no upper body or high-impact workouts. In general, the recommendation for going back to the gym is 6 weeks. Ideally, you don’t return to smoking after surgery at all, but you need to wait at least 2 weeks as it could greatly impair your body’s ability to heal. At our practice, patients typically are allowed to have surgery 2 weeks after a positive test as long as they are not experiencing symptoms. PCR tests are the most accurate way to test right now, and if you’re positive, the recommendation would be to hold off on surgery.

I would recommend going to another board certified plastic surgeon who can do an exam or a doctor who can request an MRI, which would tell you whether you have a rupture or any other concerning pathology.

Typically, nipple sensation will return by the 12 month mark, but it can take up to 2 years for sensation to fully return. There is increased risk when you have a lift along with the augmentation. Unfortunately, there aren’t any procedures that will bring back sensation if it doesn’t come back on it’s own, but you can give it more time. As far as the color change, since it appears you had a lift, it would make sense that the areola is stretched making it appear lighter.

There isn’t any one way that surgeons determine what size implants to use. For wish pics, your surgeon’s website, RealSelf.com and ASPS.org should have before and after pictures that you can show your surgeon. With my patients, we also utilize 3D imaging with Vectra to help give them a better visual idea of what implants will look like on their own bodies.

I recommend a front-close sports bra since you may have some discomfort lifting your arms above your head, but individual surgeons have their own preferences for post-operative clothing. Neither recommendation is good or bad, but if you’re having a breast augmentation without a lift, a supportive bra can help with discomfort more than anything. I typically do not recommend compression bras.

Although I have my patients use silicone gel/strips after surgery, nothing beats good surgical technique. Individual bodily healing properties are different and unpredictable, so going to a surgeon who uses the best technique will beat the effects of any product, without question.
