Traditional liposuction performed in surgery is still the most effective way of reducing fat. Other methods that are less invasive do work to an extent. They many times require multiple treatments and the result is never as dramatic. If expense is a concern, traditional liposuction in one surgery may be more beneficial than multiple less invasive treatments.

I prefer that my patients wear the traditional surgical garment for 1-2 weeks after surgery. I fine that they are much easier to get in and out of with the least disruption to the surgical area. After that I allowing switching into a compression garment of the patients choice such as Spanx or exercise shorts. Wearing some type of compression garment is very helpful for initial swelling following surgery.

Liposuction fees vary based on your demographic area. When you get a fee, make sure it includes physician fee, facility fee, and anesthesia. It is difficult to obtain a good result without anesthesia involved. In my clinic there is an initial fee for the first area and then each additional area is reduced. An average cost for liposuction of one area would be around $3500.

Each doctor will have his own recommendation for what bra to wear after surgery. I suggest an no underwire good supportive bra for 6 weeks after the surgery. If you are comfortable when in a horizontal position at night, then switching to a less supportive bra would be fine. During the day when you are active you should remain in a more supportive garment.

Getting a second consultation is always a good idea. Most doctors welcome it. It is very normal for a patient to seek another opinion when seeking breast reduction surgery. More than one consultation should have no bearing on whether or not your insurance approves your procedure.

You can have gentle sex a week to 10 days after surgery if you feel comfortable doing so. It is wise not to raise your heart rate or blood pressure the first few days after surgery as you do not want to increase risk of bleeding.
