Knee Liposuction Before And After

Some people have the notion that only areas in the body with excess and unwanted fat need liposuction.
However, knee liposuction, or lipoplasty of the knee is slowly gaining popularity, which has also raised the eyebrows of some very skeptical people.
What exactly is knee liposuction and why would people want to undergo this procedure?
First off, just because the knee is mostly bone doesn’t mean fat cannot build up there and make the knee look bulgy and unpleasant to the eyes.
If you go out a lot, you probably see women who feel self-conscious wearing short skirts and shorts because their knees appear too large and sometimes even knock into each other when they walk.
Although for most people, this happens because of a problem with the bone structure and are simply bow-legged, a few experience problems with their knees because of unwanted fat.
Fat can accumulate on a person’s knee, specially if the person is not that active physically. This can cause minor problems to a person such as decreased self esteem and problems when walking, but it could also lead to serious conditions like blood clots in the legs. This is because the fat can constrict blood flow to the lower leg, which can also lead to loss of feeling on the legs and cramps.
Just because the target area is smaller compared to a person’s abdomen or thighs doesn’t that the procedure is easier. In fact, because of the bony material and cramped area to work around on, the procedure is even more complicated compared to other liposuction procedures.
Knee liposuction uses a smaller cannula to minimize the risk of disturbing other body organs during the procedure. A patient undergoes the procedure with his or her knee bent, because the surgeon would have to make the incision on the inner part of the knee.
Unlike during an abdominal liposuction, where the fat is suctioned out in one go, a surgeon must stop every now and then to readjust the cannula and to determine whether enough fat has been suctioned out already. This is important so the knee won’t look deformed or overly thin after the procedure.
Since the knee is bent during the procedure, you are rendered somewhat immobile after the procedure. Recovery from this procedure takes a bit longer because swelling, bumps, pain and sometimes even numbness in the knee area can affect the way you walk.
Most people think the slow recovery is worth it though. The knee is a very visible part of the body and no matter how good your legs look, if you have an overly huge knee, it still looks unpleasant.
The procedure has been known to increase self-confidence in women and help a lot of people walk a lot straighter.
