How Long Does It Take To See Final Liposculpture Result?
Liposculpture results can take up to 6 months to show, but generally the average patient will see results as soon as 6-8 weeks after the procedure. (Kimberly Butterwick, MD, San Diego Dermatologic Surgeon)
Early results after liposculpture
Liposuction is a very popular and effective technique for body contouring. Patients who received this surgery should expect a recovery process which will consist of swelling, bruising, and minimal drainage. During the early stage of the healing process, you will have significant swelling and this swelling may camouflage your true results.
It is best to elevate the area that has been treated as much as possible, use the compression garment at all times, and limit your salt intake in your diet.
This is also a great time to perform aerobic exercise such as walking and increase your activity level.
By taking care of yourself at this stage, you will ensure your best possible results at 6-8 months. (Pat Pazmino, MD, FACS, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Most of the swelling is gone by 3 months, and most of your shape is seen in about 6-8 weeks. Please follow your surgeon’s advice, and your results will be seen in few weeks. (Connie Hiers, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
Liposculpture results take time
I often instruct patients that at 2-4 weeks after liposculpture they may appear a bit more swollen and can start to experience firm skin called induration, which naturally subsides over the following weeks. Surgical outcomes after liposculpture are not achieved for 3-6 months, although you may begin to see improvement well before that time frame. (Melanie D. Palm, MD – Account Suspended, San Diego Dermatologic Surgeon)
The swelling can take 4-6 months to subside so you will not be seeing your final results at 2 weeks post op. I ask my patients to wear a compression garment for 4 weeks post op liposuction surgery. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
Surprisingly, you may weigh more after liposculpture ( liposuction) than before the surgery. This is typically due to accumulation of fluid in the treatment areas. This swelling can persist for some time taking nearly 3 months to eliminate the vast majority. (Otto Joseph Placik, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Like any surgery, one can expect swelling and fluid retention. We tell our patients not to get on a scale for a couple of weeks as they will usually be “up” a few pounds. This is usually just water weight.
You may see some results at two weeks, but it is early in the course. It is important to do what your doctor tells you, (i.e.; compression garments, activity, etc), so as to gt the best result.
The body has to heal under the skin, (where the operation took place). It will take a few months to see the final result. (Jeffrey J. Roth, MD, FACS, Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon)
Liposuction results will take some time to fully appreciate
Any liposuction procedure will result in a fair amount of swelling, and this swelling will keep you from full appreciating your outcome until it has resolved. This resolution occurs over about 3 months, and over that time you should be seeing ongoing improvement as it does go away.(Armando Soto, MD, FACS, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)
Results 2 Weeks Post Liposuction
We tell our patients that you may seem the same or a little larger at their two week follow up because there is going to be swelling. Every patient is different but that is definitely not your end result. (Bruce E. Katz, MD, New York Dermatologic Surgeon)
I tell my patients to expect to be bigger at their 2 week appointment than they were before the procedure and not to be discouraged. That is not to say that all are, it largely depends on how much swelling that we get, which is variable from patient to patient.
At 2 weeks I wouldn’t be concerned. (York Jay Yates, MD, Salt Lake City Plastic Surgeon)
Liposuction results vary and they take time
Right after liposuction it is common for patients to feel like: “There’s still more fat left.” The body is composed of more than just skin and fat though. And right after surgery swelling in the tissues can make it hard to see results.
Although different surgeons vary in their techniques, in general things get better with time. I would follow-up with your surgeon and give it a few months before you start saying what did or didn’t work. (John P. Di Saia, MD, Orange Plastic Surgeon)
