One laser treatment on bluey green eyebrow tattoo made it more vibrant. Any suggestions ?
Q-switched Nd:YAG laser for tattoo removal
Feb 26, 2016
Using a q-switched Nd:YAG laser on light colored tattoos may make them appear more vibrant since they first remove the darker color inks that may be mixed in. As the darker inks resolved the remaining pigment may look brighter. The lighter colored pigment may eventually resolve as well with Q-switched Nd:YAG, but in general blue-green does not respond that well. A dye filter to 650 nm or 585 nm is available with the Revlite Q switched laser and these might do better for these pigments. A…
Acne scar treatment consult.. Is this normal?
Acne scar treatment consultation
Feb 26, 2016
Generally a dermatologist would examine your scars before providing a treatment plan. Not all acne scars are the same. Some are red, some are hyperpigmented, some are raised, some are depressed. Each type of scar needs a different treatment. Options include various lasers, including Pulsed Dye and fractional CO2, chemical peels, intralesional kenalog (for hypertrophic scars), and platelet rich plasma, among many other treatment possibilities. Your dermatologist should explain the available…

How much Voluma
Jan 19, 2016
It is best not to start with an idea of volume of syringes. Have your dermatologist inject symmetrically on each side, starting with a single syringe on each side, and then evaluate your appearance. You can keep adding, until you achieve the look that you want.

How much Juvederm to use
Jan 19, 2016
The right amount of Juvederm is determined in part by your goals. It is best to prioritize your goals and start with the area most important to you. For example, if your nasolabial folds are most important, do those first. If there is material left in the syringe after the NLF are adequately corrected, it can be used for the lip. Generally speaking, though, one syringe of Juvederm is likely not enough to do both NLF and lips to full correction.
Does laser resurfacing hurt? Are you under anesthesia? Which is best for tightening?
Comfort of CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Jan 19, 2016
In our office, we use compounded high-strength topical numbing cream applied under plastic for two hours before the procedure. With rare exceptions, this is well tolerated. We use the DEKA Smartxide DOT laser and have used it with just topical numbing, even at the highest fractional settings.
Should Botox make eyelids heavy?
Botox and heavy brows
Jan 19, 2016
Many people use their forehead muscles to help keep their eyes open. In patients like this, injecting a lot of Botox, or injecting it too low on the brow, will create a feeling of heaviness in the eyes and a feeling of heavy eyelids. (This is different from botox actually diffusing into an eyelid, which will cause an eyelid droop or ptosis.). To minimize the occurrence of brow heaviness, the depressors (i.e. the muscles that you use to frown and draw your eyebrows together, also called…
Am I a suitable candidate for Accutane for persistent acne?
Accutane (Isotretinoin) For Acne
Jan 19, 2016
Accutane is a great treatment for hard-to-treat acne. However, it is a complicated medication to use and should only be prescribed by a dermatologist experienced with its use. Although Accutane itself does not help scarring, the first step is preventing further scars by first controlling the acne. After the acne is controlled, then you can undergo treatments for scars, including lasers such as the Vbeam or DEKA Smartxide DOT. Certain lasers are not used during Accutane treatment or for…
How can I get relief from dark spots?
Dark Spots From Acne
Nov 19, 2015
The first step in addressing dark spots from acne is to treat the acne and prevent further dark marks. This can include topical medications containing benzoyl peroxide, retinoids and topical antibiotics, as well as oral antibiotics. The second step is a lightening agent containing hydroquinone, or non-hydroquinone lighteners such as azeleic acid. Sun screen must be used all the time. If lightening creams and sunscreen are not sufficient chemical peels or low-fluence Q-switched Nd:YAG…
How to remove old stitch marks on face without surgery?
Removing Scars and Suture Tracks
Nov 17, 2015
Scars and suture marks can often be softened and made less apparent with a resurfacing laser, such as the DEKA SmartXide DOT, or similar devices. Multiple treatments are necessary and full results take time to develop, but improvement can often be acheived.
Cream or treatment for dark armpit?
Dark armpits
Nov 15, 2015
Dark armpits can result from several causes. Sometime it is a condition called acanthosis nigricans, which is often associated with pre-diabetes or metabolic syndrome. It is important that a doctor evaluate this. Other reasons for dark armpits include friction. Sometimes losing weight can help with this. In addition, using moisturizes like Am-Lactin are sometimes helpful. Very small amount of hydroquinone can be tried as well. Steroid-containing creams should be avoided in the underarm area…
Redness. Will this ever go away?
Redness from hydroquinone
Nov 1, 2015
Hydroquinone can be quite irritating. Redness is common if too much is used. This redness will fade over time, but use a non-comedogenic moisturizer and sunscreen to protect the area.

Keloidal scarring along jawline
Oct 23, 2015
Keloidal scars on the face are sometimes difficult to treat. Injections of steroid or 5-FU can be helpful, but these treatments must be performed monthly for a period of time. One treatment is generally not enough. The dark appearance can also be improved with a bleaching cream and sun screen.

Dark marks on legs
Oct 23, 2015
To address dark marks, some sort of lightening cream is usually required. Common ones often contain hydroquinone, but other ingredients are helpful as well. Sun protection is required, or else success is not likely. Treatment with a a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at low energy is sometimes helpful.
How to get rid of a scar inside the lower lip?
Treating a scar on the lower lip
Oct 23, 2015
A protruding scar on the inside lower lip can sometimes be treated with an ablative laser, such as the DEKA. It can also be surgically revised. Finally, sometimes injections of steroid can help to flatten it out.

Juvederm Ultra in Upper Lip Correction
Jul 7, 2015
In cases where someone doesn’t like the outcome of Juvederm in the upper lip, there are typically two options. You can inject a small amount of filler into the lower lip to balance the upper lip and reduce the “duck bill” appearance. Alternatively, you can inject hyaluronidase into the upper lip and dissolve some of the filler in the upper lip. In any event, it is usually best to wait a week or so after the procedure for any swelling to resolve before considering a touch-up procedure.
