What Are the Chances for a Successful Tummy Tuck? I Have Never Seen Anyone Have a Stomach
Am I a candidate for a tummy tuck?
Jun 2, 2013
Great question and the pictures are helpful. You appear to have significant diastasis recti. Your abdominal muscles have migrated apart lending to the “bulging” of the lower abdomen. Its fairly common. In addition you may have a small umbilical hernia by the look of your belly button.

I dont know your health history and you should be properly examined by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon prior to any surgery to verify that you are a safe candidate. Depending on what your plastic…

I Have Tummy Tuck Concerns
What is a Tummy Tuck? Am I a good Candidate?
May 31, 2013
Thanks you for your question. Based on your photos and history of twins by c section you appear to be a reasonable candidate for an abdominoplasty. A tummy tuck removes the fat and skin from the lower abdomen.

You should also ask your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon about the rectus plication. After twins your muscles separate and the internal bulge of your abdomen accentuates the bulging of your outer skin. Its important to address this issue during your procedure.

Tummy tucks…

Understanding Breast Augmentation and Informed Decision
May 27, 2013
Thanks for the question. Choosing an implant size that is right for your body is important and sometimes difficult. Many patients have searched pictures based on height and weight and implant size. I have found that its difficult for patients to choose simply based on online photos. Its most helpful to meet with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area that can take measurements on breast width which would be very helpful in implant selection. Choosing the right size is important for…
How Can I Evaluate Which Plastic Surgeon to Choose to Perform my Mohs Surgery Repair?
How do I choose a Plastic Surgeon to perform a complex Moh’s Closure?
May 27, 2013
This is a great question. I work extensively with Moh’s surgeons correcting all kinds of complex defects on the face. Moh’s surgeons generally perform excisions all over the body and close most of the wounds themselves. The good Moh’s surgeons will get a plastic surgeon involved early when to defect is going to be large or complex because the closure will often be better and more comfortable for the patient. I generally meet with the patient prior to the critical removal to get the “lay of…
I Want a Solution for my Distorted Ears…What Should I Do? Should I Have Otoplasty? (pho
What is an otoplasty and how is it performed?
May 27, 2013
Great Question.

Although your pictures are limited it looks as though you may be a candidate for an otoplasty. But to have surgery is a personal decision and you should carefully consider both the benefits and risks after consulting with a trained surgeon.

An otoplasty is a common surgery that is typically performed under general anesthesia. The incision is placed behind the ear and there may also be a small incision in the front of the ear. Incisions should be well hidden from view….

I Had a Lumpectomy and Lost my Nipple. Can I Get a New Nipple? My Plastic Surgeon Didn’t
How is a nipple made after mastectomy?
May 19, 2013
A nipple can be reconstructed on most patients. Its an office procedure that takes about an hour using local anesthesia. Radiation may make you more susceptible to flap loss during nipple creation and or infection. See me video below on how its done. Best of Luck!
How to Remove This Mole Completely?
Should I remove a mole on the face?
May 18, 2013
Shaving methods don’t often remove moles, but they are great ways to sample a mole for pathology and determine atypia. Should you get it removed? What the shave pathology stated would be important to consider. If the pathology is questionable or malignant then removal is recommended. This is for you and your surgeon to decide together as a team. As far as how to remove. I would approach this with a small vertical incision. Its small and in a good location. But you will have a slight scar…
What Would Be Best Type of Breast Reconstruction?
What are the types of breast reconstruction?
May 17, 2013
Great question. As you have indicated there are two general types of breast reconstruction. Tissue expander/Implant or Autologous (using your own tissue). They both come with pros and cons. You need to work with your board certified plastic surgeon and choose the best route for your specific social situation, body type, adjuvant treatments (chemo, radiation), activity level, and recovery time. Some types of reconstruction take more than one stage while other require a longer hospital stay…
Puffiness After Mohs Surgery
Swelling / Puffiness after Eyelid Mohs Reconstruction
May 16, 2013
Puffiness following eyelid reconstruction is not uncommon. It typically resolves by 6 months as lymph flow improves. There are a number of maneuvers you can perform to assist in its resolution; cold compress, massage, head elevation and time.

I dont typically use steroid injections as they can cause hypopigmentation (white skin) and fat atrophy (hollowing).

One cause of puffiness around the eye can be redundant orbicularis occuli muscle or sub cutaneous tissue. This will not resolve…

Reconstruction of Forehead Cancer Defect / Mohs Defect.
May 16, 2013
Sounds like Moh’s surgery is a great option for you for the best chance at complete resection the first time. Closure by a board certified plastic surgeon would be important as the defect may be large.

The forehead is a great donor site in skin cancer reconstruction of the face however when the forehead is involved the closure can be a bit more difficult. A skin graft is always an option but a A to T flap can provide an excellent result. To get the kind of movement you need general…

Why Would a Mohs Surgeon Choose to Use a Skin Graft on the Nose when an Uncomplicated Fla
Mohs Surgery Graft or Flap for Repair on the Nose
May 16, 2013
This is a very good question. A flap is tissue that brings its own blood supply with it. It can be a random flap which has a more unreliable blood supply or it can have a blood vessel running in the flap called and axial flap that has a more robust blood supply and thus more reliable.

A graft is a piece of skin that is thin and taken free form the body and sewn into place on the defect. Blood supply grows into this tissue from the bed. It may be more difficult for blood supply to grow…

Solution for my Herniated Areolas/tubular Breasts?
Tubular Breast Correction
May 16, 2013
Great questions and difficult reconstruction. Any breast surgery can effect your breast feeding. If breast feeding is critical to you then I would not have breast surgery. Additionally you may loose nipple sensation during the correction. Although not common it can happen and you should discuss it with your surgeon. You could correct the herniation of the breast tissue by only incising the constricting ring through a periareolar incision, which is the root cause of tuberous breast, however…
What is Alloderm?
Alloderm and its use in breast reconstruction.
May 15, 2013
Alloderm is an acellular dermal matrix that is used for breast reconstruction. Our bodies use the allograft as a scaffold in which to incorporate (grow into) new tissue. It is sewn from the muscle to the chest wall in order to stabilize the tissue expander. The tissue expander is placed under the muscle and alloderm. Your breast skin will then grow into the alloderm forming an extra protective layer between the implant and the outside world. You often need fewer offices visits to place…

Alloderm and Breast Reconstruction
May 15, 2013
Alloderm is an acellular dermal matrix that is used for breast reconstruction. Our bodies use the allograft as a scaffold in which to incorporate (grow into) new tissue. Alloderm has been very well studied in breast cancer reconstruction and is known to have a higher infection rate(~15% higher) and seroma rate (~10% higher) than traditional breast recon. (Seroma = collection of fluid) However the infection and seroma rates can be effectively lowered by good patient selection (non smoker, no…

Allograft / Alloderm and Breast Reconstruction
May 15, 2013
Alloderm is an acellular dermal matrix that is used for breast reconstruction most commonly but also revision breast augmentation to hide ripples or abdominal hernia repair. All allografts, as there are many, are human cadaveric skin which has been sterilized. Our bodies use the allograft as a scaffold in which to incorporate (grow into) new tissue. You can think of the allograft as a type of “skin graft”. Allograft has been very well studied in breast cancer reconstruction and a few…
