What procedure should I use to get smooth under eye skin?
Lower eyelid skin – be cautious
Mar 4, 2018
In the photo you posted, it doesn’t appear that you have excessive lower eyelid skin or abnormal folds. The wrinkles that concern you are pretty normal. You may be able to improve and tighten the lid a little with a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, but attempts to be too aggressive in lid tightening can result in a lower lid that is too tight and may not close properly. Conservative lower lid blepharoplasty with some fat repositioning rather than aggressive lid tightening i…
Will ridge behind ear after facelift eventually smooth out?
Scar widening vs smoothing
Feb 21, 2018
Without knowing more details about he ridge you mention, this is a hard question to answer. It is true that scars that are firm and raised (ridged?) typically soften and smooth over time. This process is often called scar maturation and may take a year or longer. Sometimes scars that remain hard can be improved by other treatments such as steroid injection or laser treatment.
It is also true that scars can widen, particularly if there is a lot of tension from a tight surgical closure. Most…
4 weeks post tear trough implants and lower bleph. Will things get better?
Hard to tell…
Feb 21, 2018
At 4 weeks post surgery, most of your swelling has likely resolved. However, there still may be some swelling. Be patient. Also, the scars are still maturing and softening. You should not judge your outcome based on how things look this early after surgery. I can’t tell how much hollowing you have, and the lighting in the photos is different enough that it’s hard to tell how dark the circles are beneath your eyes. However, remember that poor hydration, stress, and poor sleep can all make…
Lower lids don’t touch my eyeballs after lower bleph 2 1/2 weeks ago.
A little early yet to tell…
Feb 21, 2018
It looks as though you have developed ectropion. Massage and time may help this resolve. Sometimes it can take weeks to perhaps even months for scars to soften and for the lid to become softer. If your current regimen of massage and taping doesn’t work, then additional surgery may be needed to tighten the lid and maybe even release some of the scar. Be patient, though. It is still early.
My eyelids have had this extra skin? For a couple of years now. I am 31.
A little eyelid fold is normal
Jan 16, 2018
Having a little extra skin and an upper eyelid crease is normal. Only when that folded skin becomes excessive and the eyes have a more droopy, tired appearance should you consider surgery. You probably still have a number of years before eyelid surgery would be beneficial for you.
I have scars on upper lids 6 months after blepharoplasty. Is there something I can do to help them
Post blepharoplasty scars
Jan 7, 2018
The upper eyelid skin is very thin and often makes a very thin, inconspicuous scar. At 6 months after surgery, I would advise you to be patient for a little longer as scars tend to soften and improve for up to 1 year after surgery. You might also consider massaging the scars each day with a mild facial moisturizing cream. If after 1 year the scars still remain thick, then excision of the scar and meticulous reclosure may be the best option. Be aware, however, that your body may be…
13 weeks post op facelift complication question
Hematoma after facelift
Nov 18, 2017
I am sorry that you have experienced a complication after your facelift. From your description, it sounds as though your plastic surgeon handled things well. Some irregularity or firmness is normal and expected after a hematoma. A collection of blood can cause a great deal of inflammation, even after surgical evacuation. It may take weeks to months for that firmness to subside. Thankfully, you can expect that things will improve and soften over time. At a year out from surgery, you will…
Everything sags, I’m only 31! Any advice would be so appreciated, I need help!
The sagging is not as bad as you think
Nov 18, 2017
Thank you for posting your photos. I understand that you view your “sagging” as significant, but it appears fairly mild in severity. The mild volume loss and subtle jowls may be best addressed by volume replacement, either with fillers or fat grafting. You probably are still too young for surgical facelift. I agree with your decision to have an in-person assessment. I recommend that you choose an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon for a professional opinion.
Disappointed less than 4 months post op, could the laxity be linked to my dental retainer?
Recurrent skin laxity after facelift
Nov 16, 2017
Recurrent laxity after face lifting can sometimes occur. Based on your post, it seems unlikely that this is the result of anything you did or failed to do. I certainly don’t feel that this is in any way related to your Invisalign. This may reflect your own skin quality and elasticity or may also be the result of inadequate tightening of the deep tissues. Either way, surgical revision will likely be needed to restore the nice early result you saw 1 month after surgery. You should discuss your…
My eyes look symmetrical in the mirror but they don’t in iPhone pictures, are my eyes asymmetrical
Eyelid asymmetry
Nov 12, 2017
It was unclear to me whether your two photos were meant to show the difference between mirror view vs iPhone view. In both of these photos, it appears that your degree of asymmetry is similar. In my opinion, it looks as though your left lower eyelid sits too low and you have increased scleral show. This can occur when the lower lid is too loose or when eyelid scar tissue prevents the lid from reaching a normal position. The treatment for each of these can be very different. You should have a…
Eyelids are too big and make me look more tired and less interested. Any procedure I can do? (Photo
Tired eyes
Nov 12, 2017
It is very difficult to accurately assess your eyelids from a single photo, but it appears you may have a mild degree of eyelid ptosis. This can make your eyes seem tired even when you feel alert. In order to assess eyelid ptosis, you should see an experienced plastic or occuloplastic surgeon. There are some minimally invasive options for eyelid ptosis, depending on the type and degree of ptosis you have and how well your eyelid muscles function.
Why do so many post-facelift patients have an indentation on the upper mid-cheek and strange jawlin
Facelift “tells”
Nov 10, 2017
Sometimes the indentations and unusual contours you describe are the result of a surgeon relying on tension on the skin to do the tightening. Not only does this give the “over done look,” tension on the skin can also lead to less attractive (and more noticeable) scarring. These sorts of tells may be avoided by tightening the deeper tissue of the face and careful surgical technique and suture placement. In my opinion, it is advisable to consult with an experienced, board certified…
Should I consider facelift or try filling the jawline with fillers?
Facelift or fillers
Nov 10, 2017
It seems unlikely to me that a young woman like yourself would need a facelift. That being said, there is no substitute for an in-person evaluation. If that is not possible, then good photos can help make some preliminary suggestions. Consider posting photos from the front, from an oblique angle on each side and full profile on each side. The photos should show your entire face and be taken in good lighting. Ideally, the photo should also be taken without makeup. I would be happy…

Many opinions, probably no single right answer
Nov 7, 2017
There are many ways to perform face lift surgery, and the recommendations you receive will reflect a surgeon’s personal preference, experience and training. The type of face lift procedure will be dictated by your specific concerns and goals. There is no “one procedure fits all” option. If there are early signs of facial aging, sometimes injectables or fat grafting may restore volume and youthful appearance without facial incisions. If facial aging is more advanced, then surgical lifting may…
5 weeks post-op upper bleph, is this the final result? I’m panicking there’s no difference from bef
Probably need a revision
Nov 7, 2017
The eyelid position at 5 weeks post surgery is probably the stable, final position. You can sometimes still have some swelling, but if the eyelid position looks too low now, it probably is. These sorts of adjustments are not unusual, but you should see your surgeon as soon as possible to address this and determine the best timing for revision surgery.
