Answer Snippet
Should I be seeing results from Dysport yet?
Units are different
Aug 5, 2017
In general, one unit of botox is used for every 2.5 units of Dysport, so you have to make sure what your provider meant by 35 units. If it was literally 35 units of Dysport, that’s a rather low dose for those areas. If they spoke in “botox-equivalent” units (which more people understand better), that’d be more realistic, but you’d still have to wait 10-14 days before a touch up, although anecdotally, Dysport often kicks in sooner than botox.
Can I have Dysport injections while pregnant? Is it safer than Botox?
No
Aug 5, 2017
It is unethical to test cosmetic treatments on pregnant women so we’d prefer to be safe than sorry and say no, it’s not been shown to be safe.
Can I trust a PA for restylane injections?
Training and experience are key.
Jul 21, 2017
It may surprise a lot of people to know, but almost every type of provider (MD/DO/PA/NP), regardless of specialty, gets most of their training on Botox and dermal fillers AFTER all their formal training. For example, as plastic surgeons, we spend a lot of time learning and practicing the intricacies of delicate surgery; for dermatologists, they are learning to identify the many subtle differences of what may look like just a brown spot to a lay person. While we do all get at…
Hyaluronic combined with other filler advisable for receding chin? Dr used Juvederm Voluma in 2014 (
It is safe
Apr 29, 2017
These fillers can (and often should) be combined in certain areas of the face. The have different properties that allow for a better unified result, in many cases. Sometimes my physician assistant colleague (the real expert injector at our practice) uses both at the same time, and sometimes he alternates between the two for optimal results. As in all cases, experience matters!
Safest and Most Effective Treatment for Hollow Eyes?
Volbella to the rescue!
Apr 29, 2017
Volbella has been our go-to, far better than even Belotero, for tear troughs. An experienced physician or PA-C will be able to determine if this is right for you.
Why Does Juvederm Leave a Bump After the Injections?
Technique matters
Apr 29, 2017
If the product is injected too superficially, it can leave lumps. Make sure to seek treatment from an experienced injector, whether physician or physician assistant. Ask how long they have been performing this procedure. Look up their ratings online. The newer Juvederm products (Volbella, Vollure) are less likely to leave any residual lumpiness, are easier to inject (more control for the injector), and provide longer-lasting results than Ultra/Ultra Plus.
How Can I Prevent Bruising from Restylane or Juvederm?
Avoid blood thinners and seek experience
Apr 29, 2017
Avoid blood thinners (ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E, alcohol) for a week prior, start taking oral arnica Montana 3-5 days prior to treatment, seek treatment from an experienced provider, who may be an MD/DO/PA-C, ice the first day of the procedure, and use warm compresses the days after (if bruised), as well as topical and oral arnica u til the bruise is gone.
Where Can I Legally Buy Juvederm to Inject my Own Skin?
Please don’t
Apr 29, 2017
Please don’t do this. There is no substitute for an experienced injector, (MD/DO/PA/NP), and experience counts, especially if there are complications, which are far more likely in the hands of an inexperienced (and unlicensed) person.
Juvederm vs Restylane
Low molecular weight products = longevity
Apr 29, 2017
In the past, hyaluronic fillers (Juvederm/Restylane) were made of 100% high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, which would often swell after injection and in clinical practice would more frequently than not have only 6-9 months of visible results. The newer two Juvederm products (Volbella and Vollure) are comprised of 90% low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and only 10% high, so you get products that don’t tend to swell much, if at all, and last 12-18 months, far longer than the older…
I had Juvederm Ultra injected about two weeks ago. I have two small bumps on the left side of my lip
Less is more
Apr 29, 2017
In my opinion, adding more filler could exacerbate the problem. If it’s only been two weeks, you can try to massage the areas with the intent to give a more even distribution.
There are newer Juvederm products that are out, now, that may deliver superior results in the future for you – Juvederm Vollure/Volbella. But either of those should wait until what’s been done is resolved.
