Answer Snippet
Weight lifting with implants - above vs under muscle?
Body building and fitness patients may opt for implants over the muscle when competing
Dec 22, 2022
You can weight lift with implants in either location, once cleared by your surgeon. If your implants are under the muscle, you may notice some shape change to your breast and implant movement when lifting weights as the muscle contracts on the implant. Patients involved in body building and fitness contests may opt for implants over the muscle to avoid this motion when competing.
Nipple desensitized after breast augmentation. What could have caused this? Can this be reversed?
An incision around the areola can damage the nerve supply resulting in decreased sensitivity
Dec 22, 2022
An incision around the areola can damage the nerve supply resulting in decreased sensitivity. Large implants can also put a strain on nerves traveling from the chest wall to the nipple which cam lead to a decrease in sensitivity. Generally, if it’s been over a year, then it is likely the sensation may not return.
Will people who feel my breasts be able to tell I have silicone implants (175 cc and 235 cc for a
It depends on how large your natural breast is in relation to the implant.
Dec 22, 2022
It depends on how large your natural breast is in relation to the implant. Small implants in a large breast are barely noticeable while larger implants in a small breast will be felt. The nice thing is that silicone implants are soft and feel fairly natural. As always, it's important to research thoroughly and choose a surgeon who's technique is going to provide you with the most optimal results.
Cost of Botox for Frown Lines Alone?
Botox for your frown lines
Feb 22, 2012
Typically it takes 20 units of botox to treat the muscles that control the lines between your eyebrows. Botox often runs between $12-$14 per unit so your cost would be around $240-$280. I hope this information helps.

Why Can't I Have Neck or Facelift as a Smoker?
Smoking impairs healing
Jan 25, 2012
Smoking decreases the blood flow to your skin and increases your risks of poor wound healing and blood clots. You also increase your risk of respiratory complications associated with surgery. A facelift is an elective procedure and should be done under the safest circumstances. Thank you for your question. It is important to understand that we as surgeons have your best interest in mind when we request that you quit smoking.

What Will my New Cup Size Approximately be if I Wear 34A and Get 440 Saline Implants?
Bra size will likely vary from store to store
Jan 19, 2012
Congratulations on your surgery! I hope that you are having an easy recovery. I generally recommend that my patients wait 3-4 weeks before bra shopping. When they do head to the store, I remind them that each store will likely have a different cup size that fits them well. It completely depends on the manufacturer. What matters most is that you are happy with your new look. Best wishes!
Is It Safe to Have a PPD (TB) Test Done 2 Weeks Before TT Surgery?
PPD testing prior to TT
Jan 3, 2012
If you are having your PPD as a routine test for work, school, etc. then go ahead. It should have no effect on your surgery. If you are having the PPD because you are symptomatic or feel that you have been exposed to TB then your should discuss this with your surgeon. Also, if your results are positive, discuss this with your surgeon. Best of luck with your upcoming surgery!

Best Way to Ensure I Get the Result I Desire?
Open conversation for the best results
Dec 2, 2011
Thank you for your question. It is one that I'm sure many people have when they think about embarking into the world of plastic surgery. My advice would be to have a open and honest conversation with your surgeon. Discuss your desired outcome at length and point out the pictures that you like the most. Also point out what you don't like so that he/she can explain what you can expect as your outcome. I feel that it is important to have a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon...
Are Post Surgery Bra's for Support or to Keep Compression?
Post-op bra's after augmentation
Nov 28, 2011
Great question. Every surgeon will have a different recommendation or reason for post-operative bra/garments.

I feel a sports bra should be worn for light support and light compression. Your breasts should feel comfortable in the bra. You should be wearing your post-operative bra 24/7 for at least 4 weeks.

If your bra feels to tight, it most likely is. It is always good to ask your surgeon and even show them what the bra looks like on.

Going to a...

How Do I Find the Best Breast Augmentation Surgeon?
Best surgeon for augmentation
Nov 28, 2011
A few things to consider when searching for a plastic surgeon:

1. Make sure they are a Board Certified Plastic Surgery (not a "cosmetic" surgeon.) It is important to know that your doctor was trained specifically for Plastic surgery, not a doctor that specializes in ear, nose and throat, doing breast augmentations.

2. Patient reviews and recommendations. It is always good to hear and read about past experiences.

3. Doctor/patient relationship. Do...

Not Experiencing Any Pain with IPL Treatment...is This Normal??
Less pain with your Photofacial
Nov 22, 2011
After this many sessions your skin should have significantly less pigmentation (freckling) then when you started. The less pigmentation you have the higher setting can be used, intern you may also be absorbing less heat overall. It is very common to feel very warm or "sun burnt" after a Photofacial, just because you do not have pain does not mean the session was unsuccessful. Using a topical serum at home with a Hydroquinone or Retinol can continue to...
After a Saline Breast Implant Can a Woman Breastfeed Her Baby?
Breastfeeding with saline implants
Nov 11, 2011
It is perfectly safe to breastfeed after having a breast augmentation with saline implants. The FDA has deemed both saline and silicone implants safe. There should not be a problem breastfeeding, especially if the implant was placed under your pectoral muscle. Having an implant placed under the pectoral muscle does not disrupt the milk ducts and glands that are located in the actual breast and fat tissue. If it was placed on top of this muscle there is a small chance...
I Have a Layer of Crust All over my Nose After Broken Capillary Treatment. Options?
Laser Treatment for Broken Capillaries
Nov 8, 2011
In my experience with IPL laser treatments this can happen when the laser setting is too high, the area is over treated, or you don’t have full contact between the laser head and the skin. Keep in mind the nose physically has less skin and tissue than other areas of the face and typically has the most broken capillaries resulting in more heat absorption causing the skin to burn. In order to prevent permanent damage keep the area treated...
Nipple Reduction -- is There Scarring?
Areola size
Nov 3, 2011
Thank you for your question. It sound like you are describing reducing the size of your areola or the darker skin around your nipple as well as lessening the projection of your nipple. I use a tool that looks a bit like a cookie cutter to determine the ideal size of the areola and remove any excess areola skin circumferentially. I then sow the breast skin to the areola skin. Any time we make an incision there will be a scar. However, with this type of procedure, your scar will hide in the...
Can I Get Just Breast Implants? Or Do I HAVE to Have a Lift?
Augmentation with a mastopexy.
Oct 31, 2011
To achieve the best aesthetically pleasing result I would recommend breast augmentation with a mastopexy.

Augmentation alone will give you nice upper fullness and good cleavage, yet it will not significantly change the location of your nipple and areola, no matter what size implant you choose. Without a good push-up bra, your breast will hang off the implant.

A mastopexy alone would give you perkier breasts, however this will not give you the upper fullness or projection...
