Do I have enough time to heal before my son's wedding after a mini face lift?
Enough Time
Jul 19, 2016
Thank you for your question. Most patient look great after a Mini Facelift with ancillary treatments by 2 to 3 weeks. This is a huge family event and you want to look your best which makes perfect sense but that said ABSOLUTELY do not do the procedure! This momentous day deserves your full attention and you want to enjoy every minute. Any set back, minor or major, would be a shame and take away from your evening. If you are a candidate some well done fillers and neurotoxin Botox or ...
DRY or apply VASELINE to scabs on tragus after Facelift?
Dry or Wet
Jul 19, 2016
Thank you for your question. I don't believe there is  definite answer and surgeon preference usually dictates course of postoperative treatment. I would follow your surgeon s advice. IN my practice it depends on the location and size of the scab. Very small superficial areas I usually recommend swabbing with alcohol and allowing a small scab to perform. The tissue beneath will usually heal and the scab will separate naturally over a week or so. This seems to heal more quickly and less ...
Do you think it's possible to fix my neck?
Neck Fat
Jul 18, 2016
Thank you for your question and photos. There are several options that wile of help. From minimally invasive perspective Kybella is an excellent option. Its an enzyme injected into the central neck to treat submental fat. Often two treatments are required but this can be an excellent option. From the surgical camp submental liposuction is a great method to remove fat and contour the neck and jawline. The procedure can be done under local anesthesia with a predictable result and very e...
Is there permanent loss of facial sensation around incisions after a deep SMAS?
Sensory Changes Postoperatively
Jul 16, 2016
Thank you for your question. All types of facelifts interrupt sensory nerves that result in postoperative numbness. Over time these sensory nerves usually heal and sensation returns over time. Typically the central face has return of sensation first and then it moves out towards the periphery around the ears. While most patients feel that there sensation does return to normal some do feel that they have some degree of numbness that persists. Sensation changes can take up to a year and ...
Tons of hard lumps in lips months after Restylane?
Lumps post Injection
Jul 16, 2016
Im sorry that you have had so many issues with the HA fillers. Usually, when done with experienced injectors, the results are natural long lasting and patients are very satisfied. The notion that Vitrase ruins faces simply isn't correct. Cutting out nodules that should resolve on their own doesn't seem warranted. I would suggest a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist who have extensive experience with injectable products so you can be guided and treated in the...
Do I need neck lift or lower face lift?
Surgery vs Non Surgical
Jul 16, 2016
Thank you for your question and photos. It sounds like you gave the non surgical approach the college try and therefore surgery is probably your best bet. That said it should be explained that the three lines you are referring to may not completely resolve and will likely return over time. A neck lift would be most beneficial because your jawline looks refined and without any obvious jowl. Remember surgery is best at re-draping lax skin and tightening deeper tissues. Many of the lines in our...
Facelift followed by laser or peel. Any suggestions?
Together of Not?
Jul 14, 2016
This is a common question that continues to evolve as technologies rapidly change. Lasers encompass many different wavelengths and can penetrate to varying degrees as well as have thermal and ablative effects. Peels encompass several different treatments with TCA being the most common. Many surgeons feel a laser treatment or peel can be safely done a the time of the facelift. This will depend on which laser is used as well as which peel solution is applied. The more aggressive the treatment ...
What is the recovery time for face/neck lift?
Postoperative Recovery
Jul 14, 2016
Thank you for your question. Postoperative recovery can vary but typically patients are presentable to be out and about within two weeks. That is not to say that all healing is complete at this point. Healing will continue for several months. By two weeks the majority of bruising has resolved and a significant amount of swelling has abated such that patients look well enough to return to work and social activities. Some patients will be out of this range and its important to adhere to ...
Will one syringe of restylane or juvederm be enough to correct my tear troughs?
Dark Circles Under the Eyes
Jul 14, 2016
Thank you for your question and photos. One syringe of Restylane should be adequate. It is best to be conservative in this sensitive area and avoid over correction. Additional filler can always be added if needed Restylane Silk is an excellent choice to treat this area. From the photos it does appear that you have a tear trough as well as some dark pigmentation of the lower eyelids known as Melasma. Filler in this area will improve the shadowing by softening the the depth of the tear trough....
Does a mini facelift include tightening the muscles?
Mini Facelift
Jul 14, 2016
Thank you for your question. A  Mini Facelift has different meanings to different surgeons. It can either involve skin only or in combination with tightening of the muscle layer known as the SMAS. In my practice I tighten the SMAS if there is an element of a jowl. This will help contour the jawline and increase the longevity of the procedure. By tightening the SMAS it allows for the skin to be re-draped rather than pulled tightly for a more natural and soft look. The price of a Mini Facelift ...
Lower face procedures.
Cheek Fullness
Jul 12, 2016
Thank you for your question and photos. From the different views it looks like you would be a wonderful candidate for buccal fat pad remove. The isn't a procedure I commonly see really strong indications for but your anatomy would lend itself perfectly for this relatively minor surgery. This procedure involves making a small incision in the inside of the cheek and extracting fatty tissue, Conservative removal of fat is best recommended to achieve an elegant and natural appearing result. T...
46 yr old considering mini / neck lift in Houston
Mixed Signals
Jul 12, 2016
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately from the single photo I am limited as to the degree of changes in your neck and jawline. Mild signals are very common and can be challenging for patients who are often looking for consistency. Often there isn't a definitive answer but rather several opinions on how to get to the end. From the photo it looks like Kybella would not be the best option. Kybella tends to be more focused on the central neck although the lateral, outside, can be addressed...
Is there more nerve damage with neck lifts vs lower face lift?
Nerve Injury
Jul 11, 2016
Thank you for your question. I don't believe there is actual scientific data on this question. One of the issues with the question is that these procedures can have a different meaning to patients and doctors. In an isolated neck lift the risk of nerve damage is very small and depends on the extent of dissection beneath the platysma. IN s lower facelift you are usually manipulating the SMAS layer which lies above several of the branches of the facial nerve and therefore intuitively in would ...
What procedure would you recommend to tighten my lower face and neck?
Lower Face Lift
Jul 10, 2016
Thank you for your question and photos. At 41 many may question undergoing a facelift at such a young age. That said the same holds true on the opposite end where a patient at 80 may think they are too old. These generalizations have really been set aside and patients general health and anatomy should dictate what procedure is most appropriate given an individuals aging pattern. From your photos it does appear that you are beginning to see early signs of jowls with more extensive skin laxity...
I am having a mini facelift, eyelid surgery and fat grafting to my face. How quickly would I be abl
Combined p
Jul 10, 2016
Thank you for your question. When multiple procedures are performed simultaneously there tends to be a little more swelling then individual procedures. That said this is common practice and makes the most sense-one surgery with one anesthetic and one recovery. From the combination of procedures you have listed in my practice most patients are able to return to work between 10-14 days.. Although you will not be comely healed at that point swelling will have significantly reduced, most...
