What Can I Use to Prevent a Burn from Scarring Stomach?
Burn treatment
Nov 2, 2010
If the burn is still red and inflamed, keep the wound moist. You can use plain vaseline (head to head studies show it is as effective as more expensive products in scar healing) to keep it moist.  Also, keep it covered. Do not let a scab form. You can try a product called Biafine made by Neutrogena which is used for burns and has licorice as its active ingredient. After the wound is healed you can try a lightening agent like hydroquinone to lighten it.  If you can see a…
Is It Safe to Get IPL Treatments when Pregnant?
IPL during pregnancy
Nov 2, 2010
Pregnancy causes skin alteration in unpredicted ways. IPL has not been tested in pregnant women and as such we cannot say with certainty that it would affect you adversely. However, I urge you to wait after pregnancy as your skin is likely to react to the laser in a way it may not normally do if you were at your baseline hormone levels. If it is performed on your face there is unlikely to be harm to the fetus though OBs advise against it.
When is It Safe to Get IPL After Inflamed Acne Goes Away?
Redness after acne and IPL
Nov 2, 2010
Acne can leave post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and redness, but usually, this redness fades.  It is best to give it about 4 weeks before resorting to IPL to take the redness away. Another option is VBeam.
Radiesse Vs Juvederm for Lips?
Radiesse Not Recommended for Lips
Nov 2, 2010
Radiesse is too thick of a product to place in the lips. Juvederm or other hyaluronic acid product is a better choice.
Is V Beam Safe for Ethnic Skin?
VBeam not good for darker skin
Nov 2, 2010
VBeam targets blood in blood vessels. Unfortunately, it can cause severe hypopigmentation in skin of color. For this reason, we do not use VBeam in darker skin types. You can try the long pulse Nd:YAG for your vessels set with a long millisecond pulse width to try to decrease the risk of pigment alteration.
Can V Beam Help Diffused Redness if IPL Didnt Help?
VBeam for Diffuse Redness
Nov 2, 2010
VBeam does work for redness and is more effective than the IPL however you will need several treatments.  If your redness is diffuse, you will need to figure out a way to trigger it so that it is maximally red at the time of the treatment. This way the laser has the best chance of targeting the blood in the dilated capillaries that is behind the red coloration.
Bruising Necessary to Achieve Results from V Beam for Rosacea?
Bruising Not Needed for Laser and Rosacea
Nov 2, 2010
Bruising is not required to treat the redness associated with rosacea with a VBeam however typically areas that bruise respond more quickly and efficiently.
How Can I Fix Hypopigmentation After VBeam?
VBeam Hypopigmentation
Nov 2, 2010
What you are experiencing is actually the result of the VBeam working in that spot. It knocked out all the redness and the blood vessels in that area. Unfortunately, now it looks very white compared to the rest of your skin which has a more ruddy/pink undertone.  The only thing to do is to try IPL to the remainder of your forehead or using the VBeam to eliminate the ruddy tone on your forehead or at least feather out the white area to pink.
Is Photodynamic Therapy a Good Choice for Pore Reduction?
PDT for enlarged pores
Nov 2, 2010
PDT is not an ideal choice for treating large pores. It is not long lasting even though it does work for acne. If you are very concerned about your pore size you may want to consider laser resurfacing treatments or deep chemical peels.
Photodynamic Therapy Done Incorrectly?
PDT Reaction changes after each treatment
Nov 2, 2010
It is not surprising that you had a decreased reaction on the third treatment. If the incubation periods were the same, it is likely that you have less pre-cancerous areas on the face.  These were probably treated after the first two treatments (typically it takes 2 for good effect) and that is why you had a decreased reaction on the third time.
Is Photodynamic Therapy a Laser Treatment?
Photodynamic therapy is a light treatment
Nov 2, 2010
Photodynamic therapy is a treatment that uses a light source that is filtered for a specific color (usually red or blue) to activate a chemical that is painted on the skin.  Some physicians activate the chemical with an IPL (also a light source) or a PDL (a laser).
After Juvederm is Injected, Should You Massage or Press it out?
Do not try to massage filler yourself
Nov 2, 2010
It is important to go see your doctor if you notice any lumps – especially in the first 72 hours. After a certain period of time, lumps cannot be massaged out. Your doctor may need to use a hyaluronidase to dissolve the lump if pressure does not work. In either case, see the physician before taking the decision in your own hands and potentially leading to more swelling or a bigger lump in the area.
How Long Before Juvederm “Sets” and Won’t Migrate from Injection Site?
Juvederm setting time
Nov 2, 2010
Juvederm typically sets in 48 hours. After that time it becomes very difficult to mold. You can ice for 10 minutes of every hour to help with swelling. (A bag of frozen peas is good to use for this because it contours to the shape of the eye). No other aftercare is really necessary.
Juvederm Bruising
How to reduce bruising after Juvederm
Nov 2, 2010
Bruising is a risk after any injection in the face. Best to avoid aspirin, garlic, fish oil or vitamin E 14 days prior to your injection. Also avoid alcohol 2 days prior. Some people feel arnica works well.  I have seen so-so results with this herbal remedy.  Some also recommend eating pineapple but again I have seen mixed results. The best thing is to ice after the injection and to find an injector who is gentle in his/her technique.
How Long Does Juvederm Last?
Juvederm lasts up to 6 months
Nov 2, 2010
It depends on where it is injected but typically Juvederm Ultra lasts 4-5 months and if you use it regularly, you may notice that it lasts up to 6 months. I have not seen it last up to one year.
