Does a board certified Mohs dermatologist have the same skills as a plastic surgeon?
Mohs surgeons specialize in cancer removal and repair
Aug 18, 2015
A fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon’s expertise is in the complete removal of skin cancer and the best possible cosmetic surgical repair of the wound. We treat these defects on the face, and in other delicate and sensitive areas, every day. We use local anesthesia and have this procedure down to a science. The Mohs technique has the highest cure rate for skin cancers, so the risk of recurrence is minimal.Plastic surgeons do have different training. They spend some time on these small wounds,…
How much would a CO2 Laser Treatment cost me for treatment of my nose – acne scars and pores?
CO2 laser is not a good choice for dark skin
Apr 30, 2014
For dark skin like yours, CO2 laser resurfacing may cause disfiguring pigment changes. I do not recommend this treatment options.Consult a board-certified dermatologist in your area to discuss other, nonablative laser resurfacing options that may be safer for your skin type. Prices will vary based on your geographical region, the laser used, and the time involved.
Will my Scar Reduce in Redness and Appearance?
Redness in scars improves with time
Oct 3, 2013
PJM, I expect that your scar will likely improve over time. Redness takes months, or even years, to improve. Sometimes laser treatments can be helpful for reducing redness and for improving the texture of scars. See a board-certified dermatologist near you to discuss laser treatment options.

As your scar matures, sun protection is also very important. If you choose to use a scar cream, make sure that it contains a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, and use it very day.

Long Straight Scar?
Mohs surgeons minimize scarring.
Sep 7, 2013
Many patients who undergo Mohs surgery do end up with linear scars. Mohs surgery, by definition, is the removal of skin cancer with microscopic examination of frozen tissue sections. This technique allows the surgeon to remove all of the skin cancer cells without removing any unnecessary tissue. Often, the resultant wound is an irregular round or oval shape.

The wound left after cancer removal is often closed using plastic reconstructive surgery techniques, which will leave the least…

I Had Juvederm Injected into my Lips and Have a Large Bump on my Top Lip. You Can SEE THE PRODUCT Under
Return to your injector to discuss correction
Aug 29, 2013
Your physician, like you, wants your outcome to be perfect. I advise you to return to him to discuss corrective options, such as injection of a small amount of hyaluronidase to dissolve the bump.
Blepharoplasty Alternatives?
Botox can help under eye skin bunching
Aug 4, 2013
A small amount of Botox in the under eye area can reduce bunching.

i agree with you plastic surgeon. The lower eyelid skin in your young fiancée is tight. Some filler may help with her natural hollows. Based on these photos, I would not recommend lower blepharoplasty nor laser tightening.

Embrace her for the beautiful woman that she is, and enjoy your wedding!

I Am 62 Yeas Old and Have Been on the Thin Side my Whole Life. Will Thermage Work on Me?
Thermage provides subtle tightening
Aug 4, 2013
Although Thermage may provide you with some subtle tightening, in my opinion, Thermage alone is not going to provide you with optimal results. You should schedule a cosmetic consultation with a Dermatologic surgeon to discuss a combination of surgical and non-surgical procedures for tightening and resurfacing your skin, as well as repairing some of the sun damage.
I Have Had a Bump on my Back That Wont Go Away and Its Gotten Bigger, What Is It?
For a new bump, see a dermatologist
Jul 14, 2013
I recommend that you see a board-certified dermatologist for your bump. Your dermatologist will examine the lesion and ask you relevant questions about it. He/she may consider a biopsy if they feel that would be appropriate. Then they can guide you as to the appropriate treatment options.
What the Best Cream for a Scar?
DNAEGF DNA Scar Therapy is the best scar cream.
Jul 4, 2013
My favorite scar cream is DNAEGF DNA Scar Therapy. It contains DNA repair enzymes to help repair damaged cells.
I Have a Burn Mark on my Lower Left Side Bottom Lip, What Can Be Done So It Can Look Normal Again? (pho
Fractional CO2 laser can improve burn scars.
Jan 8, 2013
Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is an excellent treatment option for burn scars. I recommend that you see a board-certified, fellowship-trained Dermatologic surgeon to evaluate your scar and discuss all relevant treatment options, including CO2 laser, steroid injections, and surgical revision.
CO2 Laser Causing Milia?
Retinoids fight milia
Dec 30, 2012
First of all, make sure that the products that you are currently using are “non-comedogenic.” If not, they could be clogging your pores and contributing to your milia.

Secondly, see your dermatologist. He/she may prescribe a prescription-strength topical retinoid cream or gel to help clear up your milia. Also, make sure that you are wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen every day.

I Have a Scar on my Lip That Makes a Noticeable Bump. Is There Any Surgery or Remedies I Can Try? (phot
Dermatologists have many ways to treat scars.
Dec 25, 2012
You should see a board-certified dermatologist or dermatologic surgeon in your area. Scars like this are sometimes best treated with injections of cortisone-type medications to soften and/or flatten, and may also be treated with laser treatments or surgical scar revision. Your dermatologist will want to look at your scar as you move your lips and to feel it for firmness before deciding on the best treatment plan for your scar.
How Soon After Juvedern Ultra in Nasolobial Folds Can I Use Retin A?
Resume your usual routine after Juvederm.
Dec 21, 2012
You should be able to resume your normal skincare routine right away after Juvederm.

No, you will not move your filler around by brushing your teeth or eating. However, if your lips are numb for a few hours from pre-injection nerve blocks, you might want to wait until you have more normal sensation before eating.

How Can I Evaluate Which Plastic Surgeon to Choose to Perform my Mohs Surgery Repair?
Choose a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon
Dec 18, 2012
Choose a Mohs surgeon who has done at least one year of accredited Mohs surgery fellowship training and is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery. These surgeons are best trained to both remove skin cancers AND to do the plastic surgery to repair the wound, usually on the same day under local anesthesia.

With multiple laser treatments, you may see some improvement in the appearance of this scar, including decreased redness and improved texture. However, no laser treatments will completely remove the scar.
