IPL for Rosacea, will it help with nodule like papules?
IPL for rosacea
Oct 24, 2016
IPL usually only works for the redness and telangiectasias (spider veins) that you can get with rosacea, as the light only targets red, brown, or blue pigment. Papules and nodules are usually a deeper issue best treated with topicals or oral medication. You can try either finacea or soolantra as topical treatments, and there are some specialty pharmacies that have them at cheaper cost. Otherwise, for rosacea flares, a couple weeks of oral antibiotics can be very effective...
Horrible head and facial sweating.
Face and scalp sweating
Oct 24, 2016
Have you tried a medication called glycopyrrolate? It is usually given in pill form, and now they have new topical formulations. Glycopyrrolate is an anti-cholinergic medication that essentially helps to "dry out" the sweat glands. The pills can be very effective in minimizing sweat for some people. Botox is one of the better options, but I would talk to a Dermatologist to see if the oral medication would be worth a try. Take care!
How can I treat dark black pimples?
Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation from acne
Oct 24, 2016
It appears these dark spots are from post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), which is darkening of the skin after inflammation or injury, acne in your case. This is very common and over time the dark spots will fade. The key is to stop the inflammation or acne to form in the first place. The active acne that you have are those red bumps. You might want to start with topical prescription medications, like tretinoin. However, you may get more effective results from oral...
Is this a burn scar? Is there treatment?
Should improve with time
Oct 4, 2016
It is very unlikely that this spot will scar as it appears to be a superficial skin irritation. It should improve with time and completely resolve within a couple months. Continue your skin care regimen and make sure to avoid sun exposure to the area, as the sunlight could darken the irritated skin. If the spot is itchy or scaly, you can try over the counter hydrocortisone 1%. Give it a couple months though before seeing a dermatologist. You do not want to do any unnecessary treatment...

Bump should improve with time
Oct 3, 2016
As time passes, the bump should smooth out. Daily massage will also help break up the scar tissue to flatten it. If it has not improved after a couple months, there are treatments that can help give you a better cosmetic look, like kenalog injections or laser resurfacing. I know it can be tough, but give it some more time. Hang in there!
Is there any effect on menstruation when taking accutane?
Abnormal menses
Sep 26, 2016
Abnormal menses can sometimes occur when taking Accutane, and can normalize after a couple months, or after your Accutane course is completed. It is important to make you sure are not pregnant, as you can get cramping with this as well. I would address this concern with your doctor, so they are aware of what you are experiencing.

Best wishes, Dr. Sharata

How to sort post sclerotherapy scarring ?
Hyperpigmentation Post Sclerotherapy
Sep 26, 2016
The hyperpigmentation should be improved by now. The healing time also depends on the size of the veins treated. If your veins were the large, blue colored type (varicose veins or large reticular veins), they can sometimes take several months to disappear. There are also certain factors that result in the treated veins to remain discolored for a longer time, such as hormonal therapy (for menopause, or birth control) and sun exposure to area soon after sclerotherapy...
MiraDry doesn't work for me. What should I do?
MiraDry for Hyperhidrosis
Sep 26, 2016
I would ask the clinic what energy level they used for you. We always put the energy setting at 5 for the entire underarm, which is the highest level. About 90% of our patients need only a single treatment. The miraDry representatives say anther possible reason for minimal results in certain patients is that their sweat glands are located at a slightly different depth than the average person, making the miraDry device not target the glands directly. I...

IPL on Accutane
Feb 24, 2016
Thank you for your question! Accutane makes your skin very fragile, so it is best to not have skin treatments, like IPL, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or to use harsh medicated skin products while on Accutane. Doing so can irritate the skin and cause inflammation with possible scarring. We recommend having these procedures performed a couple months after Accutane, when the skin has recovered from the medication. Your face should heal with time by keeping the skin well hydrated with...

Stop use of epiduo
Dec 14, 2015
It appears you may be allergic or sensitive to epiduo, which is usually from the benzoyl peroxide in the product. When you're face is so irritated, it is best to use simple product (without preservatives, etc), like plain coconut oil. Ice packs applied to the face can be used to relieve the burning and swelling. It is best to speak with a dermatologist or the provider that prescribed the epiduo. Hope this helps!
What are these bumps on my face? They are red, hard bumps. I cannot pop them
Red bumps around mouth
Dec 14, 2015
It appears you may have perioral dermatitis, which is a condition that causes red bumps around the mouth, and most commonly occurs in young women. A great treatment for this condition is antibiotic pills for about one month, usually minocycline. I would see a Dermatologist for treatment. Hope this helps!
There's a strip of tiny pimples of my shoulder and I'm not sure what it is?
Appears to be shingles
Dec 7, 2015
You may have shingles, which is a viral infection from the chickenpox virus. When you get chickenpox as a kid, the virus lays dormant in your nerves and decides to pop up later in life. Shingles shows up in a characteistic red line of blisters/bumps and can be very uncomfortable. It is best to see a dermatologist to take a better look. Good luck.
What are all these tiny bumps on my forehead? How can I get rid of them? I've had them for about a ye
Bumps on forehead
Dec 7, 2015
It appears you may have acne. Acne can begin at many different ages, from age 10 to 30 or 40. Some woman start getting acne as a teenager, while some start getting acne in their 20s and 30s (even when they've had clear skin their whole life). Do not wash your face too often or scrub your face as this can cause irritation and more oil production on the face, making the condition worse. It is best to see a dermatologist to better evaluate your skin, and they can prescribe you an acne cream if...
What is wrong with my skin in chest area?
Chest bumps
Dec 7, 2015
These spots appear to be keloids, which is scar tissue that grows outward instead of flat. They are characteristically pink, shiny, and "worm-like." The best treatment is a steroid injection into the raised spots to help flatten them out. Usually, scarring in this area is from chest acne, so the most important thing would be to treat the acne, so you do not get more of these keloids. Antibiotic pills are a great option to treat acne, otherwise isotretinoin (known as accutane) is one of the...
Keratoses removal?
Seborrheic Keratosis
Dec 7, 2015
The difficult thing about seborrheic keratosis is that they will come back at some point after topical treatments. The only way to really get rid of a particular keratosis is removal (like with shave, punch or surgical), but this option can leave you with scars. Seborrheic keratosis is a very genetic condition, so if your mom or dad had them, you are more prone to get them, especially as more years go by. The best ways to lessen the appearance and control the thickness of keratosis are...
