Statement: Born and raised in rural Northern Utah, Dr. Summers learned from a young age the value of hard work, dedication, and perseverance while helping with the various duties of a family farm. Following high school, Dr. Summers spent two years serving a church-related mission in beautiful Guatemala, where he would also become fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Summers path to medicine began after returning from Guatemala at the University of Utah, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology, and earning a coveted designation on the Dean’s List for his academic achievements.
“I have always been fascinated by the human body, it’s amazing ability to heal and adapt. This naturally led me into the pursuit of medicine, which is as dynamic as the human body.”
Dr. Summers earned his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, excelling in neuromuscular medicine. Learning how to heal with your hands is a vital part of what it takes to be a surgeon. While there, he served as President of the neuromuscular medicine chapter, representing the school at various national meetings.
Following his medical school training. Dr. Summers moved to Long Island, NY, where he spent 5 years learning the art of general surgery. It was intense and comprehensive surgical training, including countless hours on the plastic and reconstructive surgical teams. Dr. Summers would come to be known for his compassion, leadership, and operative skills and would serve as a chief resident during his 5th year of training. His dedication to advancing surgical knowledge and patient care is evident through his published research on breast cancer and new innovations in breast cancer treatment. Dr. Summers also received special recognition for his outstanding service during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Dr. Summers then went on to complete fellowship training in general and facial cosmetic surgery with Southern Surgical Arts. He has always had a passion for cosmetic surgery and his patients will attest to his honesty, compassion, and knowledge of cosmetic surgery.

Vaser lipo and blood transfusion?
Vaser and Transfusions
Sep 13, 2023
With VASER-assisted liposuction we rarely have to give a blood transfusion. Now, keep in mind, that there have been instances in VASER liposuction where transfusions have been required. In our practice to decrease this risk we have a couple of things that we do. First of all, we get a thorough set of labs before the surgery to make sure that your blood counts, electrolytes, bleeding numbers, etc. are normal. If you are anemic preoperatively, then you may need to do some measures such as...
Do I need local or general anaesthetic for Vaser Liposuction?
Anesthesia and Vaser
Sep 13, 2023
In regards to the anesthesia, in our practice we can do either local or general anesthesia. If you have a small area that you are considering, then it may be reasonable to just use the tumescent solution as the anesthesia. The tumescent solution is the fluid that we use to inject under the skin to do the liposuction. This solution contains local anesthetic. However, if you wanted to have a more aggressive liposuction, including using VASER, and really etching out the abdomen and other...
How long does nerve pain last after Vaser Liposuction?
Nerve pain and Vaser liposuction
Sep 13, 2023
This is a great question. Unfortunately, the answer to this question is different for every body. For most patients, it can take multiple months for the nerve pain to subside. Keep in mind, when we do VASER liposuction, we are not cutting the nerves. However, with the aggressive nature of the liposuction and the VASER the nerves get very, very irritated. And unfortunately, it just takes time for the nerves to reset. Our patients routinely report symptoms resolving usually within about six...
Vaser Lipo (stomach & mons pubis). How can I minimize the risk of loose skin?
Vaser
Sep 13, 2023
Great question. A lot of this depends on just how much extra skin you have. With extra skin there are really three ways that we can treat it. First is to cut it out. But, as you just said, you would like to try to avoid the scarring, which is understandable. However, if there is enough skin laxity or extra skin then sometimes this is the only option. Secondly, is to fill it up. What I mean by that is if someone has extra skin, you can sometimes inject fat or filler into the area to help fill...
Liposuction on flanks; How reasonable is it to do under local anesthesia?
Anesthesia
Sep 13, 2023
Great question. In general, the decision, whether to use general anesthesia or local anesthesia comes down to a couple of factors. Firstly, some surgeons may not have access to general anesthesia as not all physician offices are equipped with a surgery center. So many times the choice of anesthesia comes down to surgeon preference and what the surgeon is comfortable with. Secondly, if you have a small area that you want treated, or if you do not need an aggressive amount of liposuction, then...
I recently lost 50lbs and am considering aesthetic surgery
Diabetes and Cosmetic Surgery
Sep 13, 2023
In regards to the scarring, the history of diabetes is definitely a contributing factor. When there is elevated levels of glucose in your blood, it impairs wound healing. However, just because someone has diabetes does not mean that they cannot safely undergo cosmetic procedures. We just have to be careful and do our best to control your blood glucose before and after surgery. As far as the management of the diabetes, my question would be what treatments you are currently receiving for the...
