Will I Get Better Results From Adding Botox 2 Weeks After Initial Injection?
Botox Results Should be Assessed by Your Doctor in 2 Weeks
May 7, 2011
May 7, 2011
I ask all of my patients to return for a follow-up, 2 weeks after their first Botox treatment. In this way, I can assess whether the amounts of Botox used were appropriate and in the right locations. Since these parameters vary from person to person, the only way to know whether the treatment yielded perfect results is to check two weeks later, once the effect has occurred. If a touch up is required, for one reason or another, it is my pleasure to add further Botox to the treatment…
Will Botox Help With Under Eye Bags?
Botox is NOT useful for under eye bags
May 7, 2011
May 7, 2011
Botox will not help under eye "bags". These are due to herniation of underlying fat into the area under the eye. Occasionally, hyaluronic acid injectables will soften the "tear troughs" and make the bags less noticeable. In some individuals with large swellings under the eyes, the only thing that will help is surgery.
Perlane vs Juvederm Ultra Plus
Perlane and Juvederm Ultra Plus Results Quite Similar if Done Correctly
Apr 23, 2011
Apr 23, 2011
Although there are small differences between Perlane and Juvedem Ultra Plus, essentially identical results can be obtained with these products, when injected properly. These products contain Hyaluronic Acid, a normal constituent of the skin, that gradually diminishes over time, with resulting loss of skin plumpness. It is possible that, three years after your first treatment, you may require additional filler. Also, treatment is technique-sensitive, meaning that your most…
Is There Any Way to Prevent Post Glycolic Peel Breakouts?
Use Tretinoin Cream to Improve Outcomes with Glycolic Acid Peels
Apr 15, 2011
Apr 15, 2011
I always have patients begin topical tretinoin cream (Retin-A, etc.) at least 2-4 weeks prior to beginning Glycolic Acid Peels. This prepares the skin for an acid environment and helps to improve exfoliation of the outer layers of skin. The only proviso is that I ask patients not to use this for a night or two just prior to the peel, since this can increase peeling or burning of the skin after the peel. Use of concurrent tretinoin cream with Glycolic Acid peels definitely…
Keloid Scarring: Will Laser Therapy Help?
Acne Scarring Comes in Various Forms
Apr 11, 2011
Apr 11, 2011
Unfortunately, your question does not specify the nature of your acne scars. Acne scars come in a variety of types, each of which carries a particular treatment. Scars can be raised, depressed, distensible or non-distensible. A distensible scar is a depressed scar that improves when you pinch it. Raised scars can usually be improved with monthly injections of cortisone, which soften and shrink the scar tissue. Occasionally lasers can be of benefit for these, but results are…
How Long Does Botox in the Masseter Muscle/jawline Really Last?
Botox Effect on Masseter Muscle Depends on Dose Given
Apr 10, 2011
Apr 10, 2011
As stated above, the longevity of the effect of Masseter muscle weakness after Botox injections, depends on a number of factors, the most important of which is the dose administered. Typically, for lower face shaping, we use up to 30 units per side, which is twice what you received. The effect generally lasts for 9-12 months. In your case, I would expect return of masseter strength and thickness within 6 months. If you are interested in reversing the effect of Botox…
Can I Take Tylenol Before Getting Botox Injections?
Tylenol can be taken before cosmetic injections
Apr 4, 2011
Apr 4, 2011
Yes, you can take Tylenol (Acetaminophen) prior to cosmetic injections, such as Botox or Dermal Fillers. However, other pain medications and anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) such as ASA, Ibuprofen, Advil, etc., can all thin your blood, leading to a greater chance for bruising after your injectable treatment. The same applies to Vitamin E and herbal medications such as Gingko Biloba, and Ginsing, all of which can also thin your blood.
