What procedure is best for me? Should I consider a facelift at my age?
It's mostly good news
Feb 23, 2015
First, the disclaimer.
Photos are not a substitute for an in person consultation with your board certified
plastic surgeon. Than said, let’s talk about what stands out in the photos.

On the plus side, you are a pretty woman with an attractive
facial structure. In the views you provided your neck looks good. (A true
lateral with your chin in neutral would be of help too to determine if there is
significant skin laxity but unless that’s dramatically different from the views
provided, a...

I am 34, and feel like I am doing some "early aging." Can I do anything that would not be invasive?
Also consider other fillers
Feb 21, 2015
Such as Radiesse or your body's own fat. Voluma is the new kid on the block while Radiesse has been around for over a decade and is a wonderful volumizer. It works very well in the cheeks and is considered a "semi-permanent" filler that can last 1 -2 years. (However, in my experience, 9 -12 months is a more realistic expectation.)Fat can work wonders too, But, unlike Radiesse and Voluma treatments (which generally do not have much, if any, "down time," fat does have a considerable period of...
Dermarolling. Do you make your body produce more collagen or are you using up your own collagen?
It's new collagen!
Feb 21, 2015
Conceptually,
the technique is similar to fraxel laser treatments in the sense that it causes
microtrauma to the upper layer of the dermis (the second layer of the skin)
which ultimately leads to the creation of both collagen and elastin. Both
lasers and microneedling stimulate collagen production by triggering the
healing cascade with the release of chemical mediators such as transforming
growth factors. Importantly, the collagen produced after microneedling is
normal “basket weave”...
Derma roller for acne hyperpigmentation?
Not a DIY condition
Feb 1, 2015
Your photo didn't upload but I can offer some general advice about the condition you describe. In my office, I've had good results treating hypepigmentation with medical micrneedling (and with chemical chemical peels.) The device that is used for medical microneedling gives much more precise control over the treatment than you would have with a dermaroller at home. (I'm concerned that, if you do it yourself, you might make things worse rather than better.) If you would like to try something...
Tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck, what procedure would work best for me?
Full tummy tuck is needed
Jan 31, 2015
A lot of the "sad face" you're seeing is due to the excess skin hanging over the top and pulling down the sides of your belly button. (If you just had excess tissue below, it would be more of a "scream" face!) In addition, the amount of excess you have will really require an incision of the length used for a full tummy tuck. And, a full tummy tuck will eliminate a lot more of the stretchmarks. There are a lot of good board certified plastic surgeons in your area that will be able to help you...
My upper eyelids are deep set and hollow. Would Belotero be the right choice to fill in these hollow
An "off label" Use
Jan 27, 2015
Without an examination, or even pictures, it's hard to know what the problem is that you'd like to correct. That said, Belotero can give excellent results in filling both the upper and lower lids. This is not a use that, to date, has the FDA's blessing but it has been used successfully by many physicians. Talk to an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon in your area and let her evaluate your condition and make a recommendation.
Dermapen treatment
Rare, but possible
Jan 27, 2015
It's very unusual for the skin to stay red for that long after a microneedling treatment. If the marks are flat, or slightly raised, red dots and aren't raised and infected looking they should subside on their own. Topical creams such as arnica or hydrocortisone often speed up the process. Should they worsen or not respond to the topical treatments in a few days, you should visit your Doctor.
Moisturizer with Retin-A - Apply Which First?
a good combo
Jan 27, 2015
Most of my patients that use Retin-A benefit from applying a moisturizer. Simply wait one minute or longer for the Retin-A to penetrate and then apply your favorite moisturizer.
How do I incorporate lytera into my skincare routine when I am already using Retin-A and a vitamin c
Retin-A last
Jan 27, 2015
Lytera is applied twice daily while Retin-A is applied only once a day. Most vitamin C serums are twice a day but some are applied only once so check your product. For that matter, not everyone's skin will tolerate the use of all three products at the same time. That said, I've had the best results having my patients apply them in the order of:First, vitamin c serum....wait 1 minute or moreSecond, Lytera.....wait 1 minute or moreThird, Retin-A....wait 1 minute or more and then apply your...
How long do the positive results of a photofacial last? weeks? months?
Lasts forever (sort of)
Jan 27, 2015
After a series of properly performed photofacials, you will always look better than you would look if you not had them done. That doesn't mean that you won't need more treatments in the future though. Photofacials don't correct the underlying problem, but they do get rid of some of the visible manifestations which means you'll always have less total visible damage than before the treatments. For example, my patients with severely sun damaged skin return for "touch ups" more often than...
Is this post inflammatory hyper pigmentation from TCA peel?
Timing is important
Jan 27, 2015
Not only in applying the peel but in knowing what's normal when looking at an "after" photo. Hopefully, you did your peel within the last few days and what we're seeing is just the dead, sun damaged surface skin that will be peeling off. Usually the peeling begins around the 5th day and can last for as long as 2 weeks. Be sure not to "help" the flakes come off by pulling on them. If they don't fall off by themselves, they are not ready to come off and pulling on them can cause a deeper...
I have deep acne scars. What's the best treatment, and how much improvement could I hope for? (Photo
Consider microneedling or TCA peels
Jan 27, 2015
As best as I can tell from your photo, you appear to have more of the "rolling" type of acne scars (as opposed to the "ice pick" type.) In my practice, I've had the best results treating these types of scars with a series of TCA peels or a series of microneedling. Neither will totally eliminate the scars, but both generally do a good job of minimizing them.
I would like to know if Botox would help in raising the scars (indented)?
Botox won't help
Jan 27, 2015
But you happen to live in one of the "capitals" for microneedling. Unfortunately, your photo did not upload so I can't see the area in question. But, acne scars often respond well to a series of microneedling treatments. (Fillers do help, but are only temporary.) I would suggest you seek a consultation with local plastic surgeon to see if you are a candidate a longer lasting solution.
