Breast reconstruction
Looking for a lift
Apr 21, 2017
It sounds like you're looking for a breast lift (aka mastopexy), and not reconstruction, which is to recreate a breast after cancer surgery. I'd suggest you see a board-certified plastic surgeon (a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons) near you to talk about options for breast lifts, and specifically whether the look (and feel) you want can be achieved with rearranging your own tissue or if an implant should be added. Also, breast lifts can be done with...
Switching breast construction surgeon mid tissue expander fills? Why do I have to wait?
Choosing a surgeon for your breast reconstruction
Apr 21, 2017
It sounds like you wish you had had the initial surgery with your new surgeon! Typically in breast reconstruction, the insurance company considers the "fills" for expansion as part of the initial procedure, so it's possible that your new preferred surgeon wouldn't be reimbursed for the expansion. You might meet your new surgeon, and then have a discussion (or ask her/him to) with the prior surgeon about taking over, and it could be resolved as a courtesy, because you want the...
I have upturned, bulbous nose with a gash through the center vertically. Would fillers help?
Fillers for the nasal tip
Mar 10, 2017
Fillers would camouflage the depression in your nasal tip, which is due to a gap between the cartilages over each nostril. If you're also concerned about the width of the tip of your nose, and the angle of your nasal tip, the fillers won't really address that; surgery would be best to bring those two cartilages together, which will eliminate the gap ("gash"), narrow the tip of your nose, and at the same time the tip can be rotated down. I advise you to find someone specifically...
Looking to get fat grafting on the chin crease, under eye and in the lips for volume?
Facial fat grafting
Mar 3, 2017
A board-certified plastic surgeon is the best practitioner to harvest the fat from liposuction, and then I recommend you find someone who does a lot of facial surgery, not just liposuction. For example, I am trained in craniofacial surgery, which is an additional year of training after plastic surgery training focused on treating congenital and traumatic facial deformities, as well as aesthetic facial surgery, so I am very comfortable with safely injecting into the face and...
Lift after breast implant removal, is it always necessary?
Breast lift after implant removal
Mar 3, 2017
That is a great question. One way to test out how you might look without the implants is to have the implants punctured with a needle (by a surgeon), to mimic a rupture, and then typically your body just reabsorbs the saline. Usually the implant will go down (and of course this is not reversible!) and then you can get a good idea of what will happen, if your implants are removed and you don't have a lift. This procedure has helped my patients make their decision.
Your...
Is there anything I can buy OTC to help fade breast reduction scars?
Getting your scars to mature well
Mar 3, 2017
Scars continue to mature over the first year, so you're still in a good window! Massage always helps, and you can use any simple lotion or oil (like Eucerin, or fragrance-free massage oil) to make it easier. The other item I always suggest is Mederma, which is also available at drugstores. It is the only topical treatment that has been shown to improve scars. Just follow the directions on the package, some forms have a gel, a lotion, or a dressing; any of these is...
Can you get a reduction and lift without implants and still get a round and perky look?
Ideal breast shape
Mar 3, 2017
When I do a breast reduction, or do a breast lift, I always use internal sutures to bring the tissue higher on the chest wall to create more fullness on top. Compared to the use of an implant, however, your own tissue will probably not look as round and high as an implant can, because it responds to gravity differently than an implant. It would be good to find reference photos so you can discuss your goals with your surgeon and she or he can compare those to where you are now, to...
Lumps after breast reduction surgery?
Regarding lumps after breast reduction
Mar 3, 2017
If you had an infection and you are feeling warmth or redness, you may still have a residual infection. Please contact your surgeon and make sure that there is not a problem that needs to be treated with either more/different antibiotics or surgery.
After breast reduction, even without an infection like you had, sometimes areas lose their blood supply with the tissue rearrangement and the tissue becomes hard and calcified, we call it "fat necrosis", which sounds terrible but is just...
Is it safe for a 32 Yr old to have cleft palate surgery?
Cleft palate repair for adults
Feb 9, 2015
From a surgical perspective it's very safe to have a repair as an adult. I recommend you seek out a plastic surgeon in your area who specializes in cleft palate repairs. Although he or she may normally operate on children, a fellowship-trained cleft surgeon is best equipped to repair your palate. Good luck!
Orbital blowout resulted in one eye higher than the other. I'd like to have it repaired if possible.
Orbital blowout revision
Feb 9, 2015
A revision may be possible. I suggest you see a plastic or maxillofacial surgeon near you, who will likely order a CT scan to evaluate your eye sockets, and then potentially plan a revision with bone or another implant.best wishes,Kristen Yee, MD
How can I fix my lip besides plastic surgery?
Lip scarring
Feb 9, 2015
Your lips look nice at rest, it seems like the scar tissue is a different texture/thickness so that's why it's more obvious when you smile. Botox is for muscles, and it doesn't look like a muscle problem. It's possible that an injectable filler would plump out that area so it wouldn't dip down and be flattened when you smile. If not, a small procedure to revise the scar might help.
