Answer Snippet
Am I able to get great results with an augmentation without lift?
Breast Augmentation
Mar 13, 2018
You will likely get a great result with breast augmentation alone (no lift needed). A properly-sized implant will fill out the breast skin envelope nicely.
Help! String of vertical skin pulling under boob.
Mondor's Disease
Mar 13, 2018
This painful cord is an inflamed vein and will slowly resolve on its own. You can possibly get some relief with warm compresses and aspirin or ibuprofen. Please let your surgeon know you are experiencing this.
Will I be a good candidate for an arm lift?
Brachiplasty
Mar 13, 2018
The photos indicate that there is loose skin and excess fat in your upper arms, so you would likely be a good candidate for both liposuction and brachioplasty ("arm lift"). Liposuction can reduce the fatty component of the upper arm and brachioplasty can resect the excess skin.
I'm obese getting breast reduction, then hoping to attempt losing weight. How bad is this for my
Obesity and Breast Reduction Surgery
Mar 11, 2018
Your surgeon is correct. You should lose weight before having breast reduction. After breast reduction, your breasts will be smaller and more youthful in shape (a "lift" is part of this procedure). I have seen patients that have lost a significant amount of weight after breast reduction and their breasts have "deflated" and have become ptotic ("hanging") as a result. Additionally, if you have "rolls" of fat under your arms along your chest wall, these are not treated with breast reduction...
BR: Wound separation at T junction, 2 weeks post-op. Advice?
Wound Separation
Mar 11, 2018
This is common and often occurs in this area (the "T"). Generally, topical wound care (as you are doing) will allow the wound to heal secondarily. A little bit of redness is also normal, but if you have any concerns that the wound is getting infected, please return to see your plastic surgeon.
What type of product will help the look of a scar after tummy tuck?
Scars
Mar 11, 2018
Scars can take up to a year to fully "mature". During that time period topical scar treatment may be helpful. There are many treatments out there and, to date, no one treatment has been shown to be significantly better than all the rest. Ask for your surgeon's recommendation. Also it is a good idea to protect all "new scars" from sun exposure, as some scars may darken. One can expect scars to slowly improve with time, but if they are not, return to see your surgeon. Sometimes your body can...
I’m planning on getting a breast augmentation. Will I have to get a lift? I’m really hoping I do
Augmentation Mastopexy
Feb 19, 2018
I think your best cosmetic outcome will be both placement of a breast implant and a lift ("augmentation mastopexy"). The implant will create a "breast mound", over which you want your natural breast tissue to be centered. You do not want your natural breast tissue "hanging off" of the breast mound created by the implant. Unfortunately, this will create additional scarring on the breast as a trade off. Your plastic surgeon will be best able to describe the pattern of the...
Follow-up Question: How common is it for health insurance to pay for a total capsulectomy? (Remo
Coverage of breast implant removal
Feb 19, 2018
You can call your insurance company and ask a representative about coverage for "bilateral capsulectomies" (this is the term for removal of the breast implant and the surrounding capsule, or "scar") and before the procedure your plastic surgeon will likely need to submit clinical data and obtain "prior authorization" for the procedure.
How Long Do I Have to Wait Before Applying Gel on my Scars From Lipo?
Scar Treatment
Apr 1, 2012
I tell patients that scar treatment can begin as soon as the incision is healed. Topical agents may, or may not, be benficial but are not harmful. No one agent has been shown to be better than another.
Can the Top of the Nose Be Widened?
Widening the top of the nose
Apr 1, 2012
Yes, I would agree - not bone. A graft of some softer material would be needed - cartilage or fascia would be best, possibly an acellular dermal graft might work. Please make sure your rhinoplasty surgeon has a lot of experience and is comfortable with your problem and the proposed solution.
How Long Should Facial Stitches Be Left In?
Suture removal on the face
Mar 31, 2012
Facial sutures generally are removed in 5-7 days. The concern with leaving them in longer is the development of suture marks ("cross hatches" along the length of the scar).
25lbs Overweight, Am I Still a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Weight loss and Abdominoplasty
Mar 31, 2012
I recommend that patients achieve desired weight loss before abdominoplasty. This will help attain the best cosmetic result. If your weight has been stable for such a period of time, then you are likely ready for surgery.
What Options are there for Fixing Split Earlobe?
Split Earlobe Repair
Mar 31, 2012
This is a relatively simple outpatient procedure that can be perfomed under local anesthesia. The split is excised and sutured together. The resulting scar is usually not very noticeable. The earlobe can be re-pierced after 6 weeks either just in front of, or just behind, the scar. The costs are not usually covered by insurance companies.
