Why no vitamin E before surgery? How long before should I stop?
Vitamin E may cause Bleeding
Aug 26, 2015
Every plastic surgeon has a different set of medications that need to be stopped before surgery. Most of these cause an increased risk of bleeding. Vitamin E is one of those drugs that causes platelets, a type of clotting cell, to be less effective, potentially causing an increased risk of bleeding. The effect is worse if you also take another blood thinner like aspirin or coumadin. The usual recommendation is that you stop Vitamin E 7-10 days before surgery to give…
What procedure is needed to remove the oval shaped birthmark on my leg? How much would it cost? (Pho
Pigmented Birthmark Removal
Aug 16, 2015
This is a pigmented birthmark that can be removed through a standard elliptical incision taking out all the layers of skin and closing them back together. It should leave a linear incision that is slightly longer than the birthmark itself. Depending on your carrier and your physical exam this may be covered by insurance. Otherwise it is something that can be excised using numbing medicine in the office.
How is a dog ear revision performed?
Revision of Dog Ears
Aug 16, 2015
Dog ears, or standing cone deformities, can occur after any surgery and involve an excess of skin and/or fat. They usually respond to a small lengthening of the incision to excise skin and fat. Sometimes, if your skin has good elasticity, they can be treated with just liposuction (this requires the judgement of your plastic surgeon). Either way, both can be performed with some numbing medicine in the office without general anesthesia.
