Is Abdominal Bulge After Liposuction Normal?

Possible factors that can cause a bump after liposuction are induration (most common cause that appears about one week after liposuction and slowly dissapates over 6 months), uneven fat removal (area would be soft after about 4 months), muscle issues (ventral hernia, diastasis- this would get much bigger whenever you flex to do an abdominal 'crunch' exersize), hematoma/seroma ( slowly dissapates). Hopefully over time your issue has resolved.

It is very early and many things can change.  Definitely, the abdomen is much more sensitive to liposuction, while the flanks (especially the hip areas) are relatively insensitive.  If a large amount of fat was taken then the difference will be obvious (at least with Tumescent Liposuction- which is the type I do) even the next day.  If a small amount was taken then swelling will obscure the change and you will need to wait up to 4 months.

Your scar appears flat but darkly pigmented.  A bleaching cream with 4% hydroquinone and tretinoin for several months is probably your best bet.  Wish your skin type any type of physical treatment may make it even darker.  Time should lighten it as well.

It is common to fear loose skin after liposuction, but the reality is that if you do not have wrinkles prior to liposuction you generally do not have them afterwards either.  Tumescent liposuction is done totally under local anethetic and when done on the upper arms it actually unweight the skin and allows it to lift up.  I have had three patients in the last two years that experienced 60 to 100 lb weight loss and were happy with their current weight but still had upper arms...

I have had the opportunity to perform Tumescent Liposuction on the center upper back in several patients and they have all turned out great.  The healing time was quick with these patients only taking 2 days off of work and the scaring unnoticeable after a couple of months.  Totally done underlocal anethetic and Tylenol as needed for the minimal pain afterward. Picking out any kind of body hair ( scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, beard hair) that you know you should not do but cannot keep yourself from doing it , is called trichotillomania.  Trichotillomania is not uncommon in children but unfortunately using Latisse would not help.  Latisse allows the hairs to grow longer, but if they are not there to begin with, would be a wasted effort.  A consultation with a child psychiatrist would most likely be helpful.

If the edema your experiencing is from Restylane or any hyaluronic acid product then I should be easily treated with an injection of Vitrase into the area.  Vitrase is an enzyme that litterally eats hyaluronic acid within 24 hours of injection.  If you do have the Vitrase but still have the edema, then look for another cause (fat herniation from under the eye, thyroid problems...) . Good Luck!

I have performed Tumescent liposuction under the chin and in the pubic area (called the mons pubis) many times and found it works extremely well with little to no post op pain and no more than a few days off work.  I am not a fan of laser liposuction because it is perfomed too deep in the fat to cause any collagen shrinkage (skin tightening) and if performed close to the surface would cause ridging.  Good luck!
