Restylane can be virtually painless! In my office we use 3 techniques for all patients- topical numbing cream, ice during the treatment, and also mix in extra lidocaine (numbing medicine) into the syringe. One of my favorite, simple, and inexpensive treatments for folliculitis is benzoyl peroxide wash used in the shower. Try a 5 to 10% over the counter BP wash for 2 weeks. If you do not see improvement, you may need to see the derm for prescription strength topicals or even oral antibiotics. In a few circumstances, folliculitis may be fungal and thus would definitely need derm intervention.

I was one of the first patients to try Cool Sculpting ( I always like to try treatments on myself to make sure they are safe and effective before trying them on my patients). I too had complete numbness for about 6 weeks and then had some residual minor numbness for about 3 months following that. The procedure worked beautifully though!

How is Restylane More Effective for Upper Lip Lines?

Restylane is a softer product than Juvederm — scientifically this is because there are less cross links in the Restylane molecule. Therefore, many dermatologists and plastic surgeons prefer Restylane because it gives a softer, more natural look for those fine upper lip lines.

Juvederm is appropriate as well. However stay away from Radiesse as it is too firm for the area.

A few units of botox also soften those upper lip lines.

It is almost impossible to be allergic to the Juvederm injection as Juvederm is hyaluronic acid- the same component of the dermis of the skin. Most likely, your doctor may have nicked a little capillary with the injection. This may have been a slow leak leading to the delayed swelling. You should ice the area to reduce the swelling. The other possibility is infection. If any fever or severe pain develops you should immediately contact your physician. Good luck!
