Retin-a / Tretinoin Strength for Getting Rid of Sebaceous Filaments on Nose & Closed Comedones on Fai
Retin-A for Dry Skin
Oct 24, 2013
Tretinoin generally comes in 0.025%, 0.05% and 0.1%. Retin-A comes in 0.04% and 0.1%. As these are prescribed medications, your dermatologist should decide which strength is best for you. In general, if you have dry, sensitive skin, start low (0.025% or 0.04%). You can always go stronger after your skin gets accustomed to the lower strength. “This answer has been given without seeing the patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, only opinion. What is the Best Laser Treatment for Dermal Melasma?
Laser Treatement for Dermal Melasma
Oct 24, 2013
Dermal melasma is very difficult to treat, but I’ve used the 1927 nm laser (commonly known as Fraxel Dual or Clear & Brilliant) with great success. I always use the lasers with lightening medications (creams) or natural lightening products. This will enhance the results and prevent side effects. Make sure you go to a dermatologist who is experienced in treating melasma with lasers, especially if you have darker skin. “This answer has been given without seeing the patient and cannot be…
Is There Any Benefit to Using Glycolic Acid in the Morning and Retinol at Night? Or Should I Just Sti
Using Retinol and Glycolic Acid (Glytone)
Oct 23, 2013
You can certainly use a retinol at night and glytone (glycolic acid) in the morning. Both exfoliate the skin, leading a brighter, more even, smoother complexion. Using both together will have added benefits. But both agents can cause mild irritation and peeling at first (even more if the products are used together). This should subside in time or by using a lower dose of the products. “This answer has been given without seeing the patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, only…
I sunburn/freckle easily. Coincidentally, I’m allergic to sunscreen too. Any other product I can use
Sun Protection besides sunscreen.
Oct 23, 2013
Since you freckle easily, it is very important that you have sun protection. Generally it’s the “chemical sunscreens” that cause an allergy. A mineral sunscreen with only zinc oxide or titanium dioxide listed as the active ingredients would be a good choice. Any inactive ingredient could still cause an allergy, but at least you’ve eliminate traditional chemical allergens. “This answer has been given without seeing the patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, only opinion. I Am A Persian Girl, I’d Like To Know What Technologies Work For Me For Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair removal for Olive Skin
Oct 21, 2013
We treat a lot of Indian, Hispanic and Persian clients. There are several safe laser for olive skin, especially the longer wavelength lasers like the NdYag 1064 nm. If you are lighter a 755 nm or 810 nm laser may work. Many companies make these lasers under different brand names. The biggest piece of advice — look for a doctor who has a lot of olive skin patients and understands how to treat darker skin. Lasers are now very safe for our skin if you know how to treat dark skin and know…
I have had about 7 laser treatments. If I don’t have any more will the hair grow back eventually?
The hair won’t grow back.
Oct 21, 2013
No the hair that has been treated is gone. But you have thousands of hair follicles in different phases of growth, depending on the area of the body. Only a certain percentage of hair (the hair that is in the growth phase at the time) is treated at each visit. In time, the next batch of hair grows, which is why you need multiple treatments. But it generally is less hair and a thinner quality after each visit. Eventually, it should be gone or minimal.
I Am 42 and Have Had Cystic Acne. Thinking About Using Dermaroller for Scars?
MicroNeedling for Scars (clinical-grade Dermaroller)
May 29, 2013
Thank you for posting your pictures. An at-home dermaroller may help, but given your extent of scarring, I would strongly recommend either the Fraxel laser or Micro-Needling. We use both, but we’ve recently had great success with Micro-Needling. It’s a more intense version of the dermaroller systems available for home use. There are more needles that are sharper and go deeper than any at-home system. The device also combines needling with vibration to bring in…
Micro Needling Using German Made Derna Roller?
Micro Needling — a great success in Orange, CA
May 29, 2013
We’ve been using the Micro Needle technique (made in Germany) for several months now. We’ve seen great success with acne scars, other scars, stretch marks and overall “rejuvenation”. I’m very glad we brought it into the practice as it’s an effective treatment with great results. Our patients have given us great feedback!
Treating Small Shallow Icepick Scars?
Micro Needling for Acne Scars / Ice Pick Scars
May 29, 2013
Without seeing the scars, it’s difficult to fully answer this question as each scar is different. But we’ve had great success with Micro Needling for both acne scars and isolated shallow scars as you described. Micro Needling is a more clinical version the dermaroller. With this, we use an instrument with several needles and vibration to injure the scar, tricking the body into making new collagen. The needles are sharper and deeper than any dermaroller available for home…
If I Have Never Shaved or Waxed my Bikini/brazilian Area Before, Can I Still Get Laser Treatment?
Laser Hair Removal ok on unwaxed / unshaved bikini
May 29, 2013
It is perfectly safe to perform laser hair removal on a natural bikini area (never shaved or waxed), but I would strongly recommended shaving or trimming the hairs as close as you can to the base. This allows the laser to penetrate deep into the skin, instead of “catching” on the hairs on the surface. Many patients are uncomfortable with trimming or shaving, so ask a trusted friend or position yourself in different ways to get to the hair. And always be take your time and…
Safe and Effective Setting for Alexandrite Laser for Type IV Skin?
Laser hair removal safe for darker skin types….with the right experience
May 29, 2013
Laser hair removal is a safe, effective method to remove hair in most skin types, with the right equipment and the right experienced physician. In our practice, we have many patient’s with darker skin types and we tailor each treatment to your skin type. Skin type 4 can certainly be treated, with we have to decrease the energy and pick the right laser. I have the Alexandrite (GentleLase), but we often use the newer model (GentleMax) which lets me use the Alexandrite or…
How Can I Remove Hairs in my Face
Laser Hair Removal Works
Aug 14, 2011
Laser Hair Removal is a great options for nearly all skin tones, if your dermatologist uses the right laser at the right setting.

Laser Hair Removal may require multiple sessions, depending on how active your hair growth is and your genetic / ethnic background. Darker skin may require more sessions.

Overall it's definitely easier to eliminate the hair and avoid plucking, waxing, threading and other methods that may lead to scars and more problems.

Only shave the…
