Why Do Alot of People Say Dermal Fillers Are Dangerous?
Risks with filler injections
Sep 14, 2014
Fillers are generally safe and results are good when performed by an experienced practitioner. But there are some important risks you need to be aware of. The most serious one is embolism or vascular occlusion caused by a filler which can result in tissue necrosis or death. Embolism is caused by injection of a foreign substance like filler into a blood vessel which causes a clot to form which can break off and then travel in the bloodstream causing damage. Since this...
Can You Get a Emboli from Lip Augmentation with a Hyaluronic Acid?
Risk of embolism from filler injection
Sep 14, 2014
The type of embolism you're referring to is caused by injection of a foreign substance like filler into a blood vessel which causes a clot to form which can break off and then travel in the bloodstream causing damage. Since this involves the skin (and not an embolism of the lungs or heart), it is unlikely to result in death, but more likely to result in necrosis (due to lack of oxygen to the skin which can result in the tissue dying) and resultant scarring and nerve damage. This is...

What Does the Pain During Ulthera Feel Like?
Pain with Ulthera treatment
May 22, 2013
The pain generally feels like a moving warm sensation or small electrical shocks that can build up to a crescendo. Each pulse starts out with some prickly sensations that can then get more intense and feel almost like a burn. The discomfort is usually mild but can built up to short spikes of brief pain. The pain felt during the treatment is highly variable from patient to patient and also can vary greatly depending on the experience of your doctor. There are many techniques which can be used...
Will Ultherapy Really Get Rid of Under-chin Sag?
Nonsurgical lift with Ulthera
May 22, 2013
Ulthera uses ultrasound energy which penetrates very deeply and uniformly into the skin and underlying connective tissue resulting in a nonsurgical lifting and tightening of the skin. It is best used for the brow, forehead, mid and lower face, jawline, jowls, under chin and neck regions. It is the best nonsurgical alternative to a facelift. It is important to know, however, that it does not give the results of a facelift or necklift but then again you're not having to go thru surgery. It...
How Much Does Smart Lipo Cost?
Cost of SmartLipo
Dec 1, 2012
The cost of SmartLipo is highly variable depending on the experience of the surgeon, geographic location, amount of time involved and size of the area treated. It can generally range from $2,500 to $4,500 per area or region (i.e.: upper abdomen, lower abdomen, love handles, hips, lateral thighs, etc. are all different areas). If most doctors in your area are charging around the same price but then you find one doctor that is dramatically lower, then you might need to worry that...
Liposuction Vs. SmartLipo ~ Which is Better?
SmartLipo vs Traditional Liposuction
Dec 1, 2012
The most important factor in having a successful treatment is physician selection. Make sure that your physician is well-trained and experienced in the procedure. A board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon with many years of experience who has performed many cases without complications is the best bet. With all else being equal, then the results with SmartLipo are better than with traditional liposuction. I've performed side-by-side comparisons doing...
Have Any Doctors Used Liposonix in the Lower Buttock Region? Ive Read That It Can Be Used off Labe
Liposonix for buttocks
Sep 13, 2012
I was one of the first centers in the U.S. to get the Liposonix device after it got FDA approved for fat reduction Nov 2011. I have treated many parts of the body off-label (it is FDA approved for abdomen and flanks) where there is at least an inch of fat with great success and no complications. I've been successfully treating the entire buttock region along with many other off-label regions. It works great for areas that are difficult to reach with liposuction such as the...
Can Liposonix Be Used for the Neck/Cheek Area?
No, Liposonix cannot be used on the face or neck
Sep 13, 2012
Liposonix can be used on many parts of the body that have at least an inch of fat--I have had great experience using this device successfully and safely on many body parts including abdomen, sides, flanks, love handles, muffin top, back, buttocks, hips, inner and outer thighs, cankles, inner knees, fat around the elbows, underarm area, "back breast", and bra bulges. However, Liposonix cannot be used on the face or neck areas. There may be the possibility in the future that a tip...
Does the Skin Tighten Up with Liposonix?
Liposonix great for fat reduction, combine with other procedures for skin tightening
Sep 13, 2012
There is some modest skin tightening with Liposonix in patients who have pretty good skin turgor to begin with (skin bounces back when pinched) but it's barely noticeable in patients with moderate to severe skin laxity. I would not recommend doing this procedure for skin tightening--if you get some, think of it as a bonus. Skin tightening can be enhanced by combining it with a procedure such as Thermage or Titan, which can be about 20-30% depending upon how many treatments are...
Liposonix or Vaser Shape for Inner Knees?
Liposonix for treatment of inner knee fat deposits
Sep 13, 2012
I was one of the first centers in the U.S. to get the Liposonix device after it got FDA approved for fat reduction Nov 2011. I have treated many parts of the body off-label (it is FDA approved for abdomen and flanks) where there is at least an inch of fat with great success and no complications. It works great for areas that are difficult to reach with liposuction such as the cankles, inner knees, around the elbows, inner arms, around the underarms, "back breasts", and bra bulge....
Why is Botox Needed Every 6 Month for Hyperhidrosis?
Botox and other methods for hyperhidrosis
May 31, 2012
Botox is not stored in the body--it acts on the receptors in the skin and then the effects gradually wear off. It is a very easy and relatively painless procedure to perform in the armpits. It's also covered by most insurance plans and the doctor can help you with the necessary steps to get this covered. However, if you have a high deductible, you may end up paying for most of it anyway so you may want to talk to the doctor to find out if there is a discount for paying cash...
Smart Lipo for Cellulite - Does It Work?
SmartLipo for fat removal - Cellulaze better option for cellulite
May 31, 2012
SmartLipo has the advantage over traditional liposuction in that it also helps with skin tightening. It will help with your saddlebags but it's important to know that liposuction can actually make cellulite look worse in some cases. Cellulite is a complex problem for which there has not been an adequate long-term solution. There are many noninvasive options which can help with cellulite but they are temporary and have to be done on a constant and regular basis to maintain...
Sagging and Heavy After Botox, Causes? and How Long Will This Last?
Lid sagging after Botox
May 30, 2012
You may have lid ptosis which can occur if injecting too much or too low underneath the brow. It usually improves after 2-4 weeks. You can reverse the effects with a special eyedrop that you can get from your doctor. I would definitely contact the treating physician first to see if they can help you with this. The swelling may be from excessive bruising and may improve with ice or cold compresses and rest. The effects of Botox wear off usually after 3-4 months.
