David Amron, MD

Statement: For over 25 years, Dr. David Amron has earned an international reputation as a leading lipedema, liposculpture, and revision liposuction surgery specialist. Dr. David Amron is the founder and medical director of The Roxbury Institute with locations in Beverly Hills, CA and Salt Lake City, UT. The Roxbury Institute is home to the Advanced Lipedema Treatment Program (ALT) which comprehensively treats Lipedema. He has refined his technique and artistry over close to three decades and has performed over 5,000 lipedema surgeries and 12,000 liposuction procedures—a depth of experience that has made him one of the most in-demand liposuction surgeons in the United States.

Dr. Amron’s guiding philosophy is about bringing balance to each patient’s proportions and creating a refined silhouette. He takes an all-encompassing approach in assessing a patient’s unique anatomy, needs, and goals. During a consultation, Dr. Amron evaluates the entire body with three factors in mind: weight, disproportion, and laxity. Looking at the body in its entirety and developing a customized treatment plan results in more natural-looking outcomes.

After graduating from the University of California San Diego with a degree in Biology, Dr. Amron attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where he obtained his medical degree. He then returned to UCSD to complete his residency. A research fellowship at UCLA followed. Dr. Amron is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and a member of numerous medical societies including the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the American Society for Liposuction Surgery, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Amron is a well-known national and international speaker and surgical advisor on the subject of Lipedema and liposculpture. He trains other select surgeons from around the globe on his unique surgical techniques and his work has been featured extensively in the media including national and international television, radio, and print. Dr. Amron is the creator and host of Lippy Logic™, the first comprehensive educational YouTube series about Lipedema, and he is an outspoken advocate for Lipedema awareness, education and insurance reform for Lipedema patients. In 2015 he founded the Lipedema Society™ to increase awareness and knowledge for Lipedema.

How to diagnose lipedema or just normal fat? None of my providers know about this disease. Best treat
Lipedema Diagnosis
Jun 17, 2023
Lipedema is characterized by a disproportionate distribution of fat in the extremities, notably the thighs, calves, and ankles. In most patients there is also swelling, easy bruising, and a sensation of heaviness, aching and/or tenderness in the affected areas. Lipedema typically presents itself in the early teenage years, which may explain why your symptoms worsened after age 12. In your case, it would be advisable to have a consultation with a lipedema expert (in-person or virtually) to…
Is it worth it to invest in liposuction/CoolSculpting for lipedema on legs in my late 20s?
Progression of lipedema
Jun 17, 2023
Lipedema tends to progress throughout one’s lifetime. We know that it can flare during times of hormonal change (e.g. pregnancy, menopause). There are non-surgical treatment options for lipedema, which include dietary strategies and compression therapy (e.g. compression stockings, compression pumps). Certain supplements may also help with symptoms of lipedema, but it is always a good idea to consult with your primary care provider before taking any supplements. Liposuction is the most…
Is preop testing not necessary before lipedema surgery?
Pre-operative testing before lipedema surgery
Jun 17, 2023
Pre-operative testing includes a pre-operative physical examination, EKG, urinalysis and/or blood work to help clear a patient for surgery. The thought behind these tests is to detect possible health issues that can complicate a surgery if not addressed before the surgery. Typically, these tests are recommended after a thorough medical history, however they are not always necessary. It is important to discuss with your surgeon if pre-operative testing is recommended before your surgery.
Lipedema and Nodules?
Lipedema Nodules
Jun 17, 2023
Lipedema nodules are comprised of both fat and fibrosis. Liposuction surgery can help improve the nodules, especially if combined with mechanical or energy-based tools to break apart the fibrosis, such as power-assisted liposuction (PAL) and ultrasound-assisted liposuction (i.e. Vaser), respectively. It is recommended to make a consultation appointment with a lipedema surgeon for an examination and to discuss your case in further detail.
Is Sculpsure safe for lipedema patients?
SculpSure and Coolsculpting in Lipedema
Aug 1, 2022
Lipedema is a fat storage condition that is characterized by both fibrosis (scar-like changes) and an abnormal circumferential fat accumulation in the extremities. Although Sculpsure and Coolsculpting are effective noninvasive treatments for fat reduction and body contouring, these technologies won’t be able to effectively address the fibrosis that is a large component of lipedema. These noninvasive body contouring devices are not as effective as power-assisted liposuction for the treatment…
